For my bro's birthday this year i bought him a micro RC Helicopter which was really cool. My dad was quite jealous and i think played with it more then my bro did.

For xmas my dad wants something similar but a bit bigger. He reckons he's seen them for £30, i dont mind paying £40.

There are loads on Play and Amazon, but i dont really know what im looking at. Can anyone help?

Sounds like you bought your brother a Silverlit PicooZ (or clone)

These now seem to be going for ~£12 upwards

Take a look at RCGRoups.com - lots of advice there

Multi Rotor Helis - RC Groups

and

Micro Helis - RC Groups

If you want something bigger than a Silverlit Picooz

Then you are probably looking at the coaxial Helis like

ESKY Lama - ~£70

Blade CX / CX2 £more

MAKE sure that you are buying a Ready To Fly (RTF) package -

Make sure that whatever you buy includes the Transmitter - some of the Blade CX2 adverts are not clear on this

Not sure what you've been seeing at around the £30 - £40 mark

They're probably not much different to the Picooz

If you want something more challenging then look at the

ESKY Honeybee Fixed Pitch 4 Channel Helicopter

(lots of people start with these)

Hope this helps

I know you wanted to spend around £40 - but have a look at this:

Fast Lad Performance

It is absoloutly fantastic, its sooo small and cute, and yet at the same time sooo stable and easy to fly, and it seems to be semi-indestructable. If you can possibly afford it - get that one as it is by far the best of it's kind.

This is a 27MHz RC Helicopter - not legal in the UK (should be 35MHz)

Salvation-4-Three-Channel-Radio-Control-Helicopter for £39.99 at

Salvation 4 radio controlled helicopters, Free UK delivery.

Really don't know anything about these - you might find it hard to get spares

If you do buy one - be very careful with the Lithium Polymer batteries

Hope this helps

lol, ive just watched a you tube video about those batteries.....scary!!! Dont wanna blow my dad up!!

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3o_2mwRPdw]YouTube - Lithium Polymer Battery Explosion's (liposack)[/ame]

why is 27MHz illegal? out of interest....does it interfere with something? http://www.ukrcc.org/27mhz.html

Back to the drawing board.

This is harder then i thought. He's already played with my brothers silverlit(?) one, he wants something differnet, a little bigger..

do Lithium Polymer batteries blow up often?

The more i read about them, the more i am put off by this heli..

other one does look a little pants as someone pointed out and Mr Witch thinks there may be issues with its...mhz.

But it looks safer!!!
