A teacher wants to take a screenshot from a piece of film she's playing in Windows Media Player.

Straight away I suggested to pause the film, hit Print Screen, paste into Paint, save as JPG.

Weirdly, when pasted into Paint, the video itself isn't there. Just the shot of Windows media player as an outline.

Even weirder, if I switch back to WMP and play the video again, it plays in Paint, too!

How can I get the shot of the video?

I can do it with Premier Elements but I need something simple for a teacher.

Thanks.

If its not a big file you could always import it into windows movie maker and capture a screenshot using the "take picture icon" from withing that and save it as a jpg.

It's playing as an overlay so you won't be able to print screen it in the normal way. You need to get wmp to do it (if it can, most dvd playing software will have a screen shot button for example).

You may be able to cripple the playback so it's not an overlay in the options but I don't really use media player for much.

If you just need a couple of screen shots from any media player thats running.

go to advanced properties of your display and select the troubleshooting tab.

Turn hardware acceleration off or down as far as it will go before the video turns black.. now you can use print screen key and paste in to mspaint no probs.

Within Media Player (I'm using version 11) go to Tools > Options > Performance > Advanced. Untick "Use overlays".

Close Media Player, then re-open it. Press the Print Screen button, then paste into Word (for example).
