penfold Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Failry obvious really...Dangermouse was taken:(
mac_shinobi Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 self explanatory - I enjoy macs and wanted something better then ninja and as per Ninja - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ninja and shinobi-no-mono (as well as shinobi) may be translated as "one skilled in the art of stealth." I thought that the stealth part linked in nicely with the macs since you can enable stealth mode on macs well at least with os x
Netman Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine's not really short for network manager - actually I'm semi-aquatic, but missed the 'w' out when I signed up!
WithoutMotive Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 errrm... Any reason for the _, Ric? (just thought I'd help you expand your post so you don't appear boring... lol)
User3204 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 It was the account username I was given when I started working (at a bank, and they seem to go for anonymous usernames).
SpuffMonkey Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 When out drinking (heavily) with some former colleagues, one admitted to having this name at school due to his habit of excessive "self abuse" , around that time we were playing a lot of online games together and I started using it as a "handle" to annoy him, and it stuck, as these things do.
Friez Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Stolen from a popular Japanese Manga/Anime since I thought the alias would be cool (at the time), with the A dropped since people in certain DJing crowds got upset that I was 'stealing' their DJ alias (in reality: I've been using the 'Frieza' alias for 7 years, and they've been "on the scene" for two). Most MC's say DJ Fries instead of DJ Freeze which is how I consider it to be pronounced. Meh, It's an alias!
seacider Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I've used this for a few years now, Seacider, well because I come from the seaside (Blackpool) and seasider was already in use as it is the name by which Blackpool football club are known. boring really
Face-Man Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine is unfortunately not because I bare a resemblance to Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck but because I had the skills of "acquiring" (through legal methods) equipment or supplies require by my friends in the days before ebay made it far to easy....
ZeroHour Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I was inspired by a film tbh (not the game) and I cant remember what film it was but I was sitting at the PC bored with my old alias and I heard it in the background and thought, yeh it will do. I did play the game though
Abaddon Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 "Abaddon - The Angel of the Abyss" (from Hebrew mythology) Because I used to work in a dark hole, and am unceasingly evil to all my users (apparantly)!
Gonk Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I acquired the 'Gonk' name when I was in school. One of my friends decided that I needed a nickname. It was all that he could come up with in 30 seconds.... it stuck Aparently, Gonk was also a Power Droid in Star Wars... http://Http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonk
russdev Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine from days when I use to development work so became RussDev. Russell
Ric_ Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Any reason for the _, Ric? (just thought I'd help you expand your post so you don't appear boring... lol) There will be people on EduGeek that won't remember the early days of EduGeek... before the bling new v2 site came along. The old CMS we used was a little restricitive and one of its restrictions was that usernames had to be a minimum of 4 characters. An underscore seemed as good as anything and then it kind of stuck.
cheesypete Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 In my group of friends, there are two "Petes" - everyone got fed up shouting "Pete" and both of us turning around Because i never stop smiling one friend decided to call me "Cheesy" after the grinning Cheshire Cat ....I must stress its not a hygiene issue!
tmcd35 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 'suppose it's my turn to enter the confessional, another boring one I'm afraid. It hails back to about '93 when I first got on the Internet. I needed a username between 4 and 10 characters and the best I could come up with was my first initial and the start of my name - tmcd. I used this for years. Then one day I had to re-apply for a yahoo mail account. 'tmcd' was taken since I'd used it before. One of the options was tmcd35 - I took it, it stuck, thats it! Fraid the 35 as no meaning what so ever!
originofsymmetry Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Wanted a new username and was listening to new born by muse at the time, read the album name and thought, that's grand.
harrno Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mines an easy one ... back in the days of PDP/VAX networking uniqueness was needed therefore first 4 of surname plus first two of christian name. Mostly worked but there were exceptions. I also use Earwig 'O' (hence the earwig avatar) - from what they shout at football matches ...
Pete10141748 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 "pete" as thats my name !10141748" as that was my Uni ID number, and I used it so much I'll never forget it
DSapseid Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Yep another boring one my initial and my surname
tmcd35 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 !10141748" as that was my Uni ID number, and I used it so much I'll never forget it That's interesting, I wonder how many others have instant recall on their uni number? I do! However, I can't disclose it here as I use it for other things - It'd be a security risk
markman Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine comes from an old Gary Numan song 'Machman' just changed to include my name. And that song is old, 30years next year!! God I'm old
