How many coats is too many?

The weather here in Preston has finally nudged itself back into 'English summer' and, whist grabbing my Waterproof ready for my lunchtime walk, I noticed I have more than a few coats. I seem to have one for every occasion and feel I may be overdoing it.
Currently I posses:

 

• A North Face Puffer Jacket
• Another puffer jacket the NF is to replace, but still has some life in it yet
• A pea-coat for dressier\smart occasions
• A Gore-Tex waterproof
• A Sheepskin flying jacket (got that at a closing down sale as I always wanted one. Very warm!
• A replica 60's US field jacket for mooching around the countryside in
• A long-ish black leather jacket (had it for ages and can't bare to part with it, even though it's fading now)

 

Is this too many (I actually had to but a coat stand to accommodate the most commonly used ones) or am I overthinking the fact I live in a place that requires definite seasonal jackets?
And if anyone can beat this, then please feel free to put my mind at rest!

- Lightweight Waterproof for wet warm weather 

- Lightweight non-waterproof - for warm and windy 

- Pull over (which i dont wear anymore as kept exposing me when i took it off!) - N/A
- Warm Parka - Cold and Windy

- My go to large padded water proof mountain warehouse coat - Cold, wet and windy

I have: 

Goretex with zip-in fleece for all occasions 

Goretex with zip-in fleece for all occasions with additional ventilation from where OH's cats expressed their views on being captured and put in cat carrier 

Goretex with zip-in fleece for all occasions with additional ventilation from when I fell off my bike

Hi-viz Goretex inherited from someone who carried it on a DofE expedition as hi-viz was mandatory, but they were too cool to wear it.

Never enough coats!!! 😄

But, from your description you have a few that are no longer coats, but are decoration. So, you can either take them out of the count, or do something decorative with them. My minimalist head says it will hurt but get rid of them.

 

Saying that I have:

- Puffer jacket for dry but cold

- Bodywarmer for dry but not as cold

- light waterproof for going in bags just in case

- Sensible coat for work/nice places

- Overcoat for formal

- Dry robe for really cold or standing still

-Rough coat for silliness.

And I didn't include 2 fleeces!
It would be interesting to compare this to those in other countries, and I'm glad I'm not alone in having more than a few coats\jackets 😁

Wonder if this also applies to footwear? As i think i have a lot!

 

Walking boots > My day to day wear along with work

Smart boots > Funerals, bar mitzvah's and weddings

Trainers > Hardly wear as hurt my archs (only really wear boots!)

Wellies > Dog walking

Running shoes > Gathering Dust

Cricket Shoes > Cricket

Similar to above,

a smart rain mac for standing around in the rain while wearing a suite,

a formal overcoat (these days mainly used for winter funerals)

a pretty decent gore-tex jacket (for yomping around the wilds)

a cycling jacket for commuting.

a sailing jacket (for not commuting)

a causal jacket that came with a light weight fleece that works just fine on its own

and a waxed jacket I have to chase round that garden because after being left a coupe of decades, forgotten at the back of a  shed, it now has a mind of its own.

 

I could do with something that sits between the causal jacket and the formal overcoat (like a duffle or  similar), but not enough to actually go and buy one.

 

The mac, formal overcoat and waxed jacket are 30+ years old.

 

The technical jackets get replaced every few years as they wear out.

[ok, and a pack-a-mac, for squashing into a day-sack, a bigger/ticker fleece for the colder evenings/days, a selection of retired technical jackets much like jmaks, oh and a dressing gown/bath robe I mooch around in like it was a house-coat/smoking jacket]

Shoes? Smart Black, Smart Tan/Brown, casual boots, casual trainers/shoes, sports shoe (for cycling mostly), wet suite boots, hiking boots, hiking/walking shoes. flip flops, sandals and some slippers.

This is a lot of coats!

 

I have a light waterproof, a big warm/waterproof ski jacket, a nice wool one I really only wear to Bett and a leather jacket for when I want to look super cool on a rare trip to the pub.

It gets worse when your kids grow up though, Currently any coat hanging space is at a premium, once they leave, that space demands to be filled.

You're not wrong!  14 coat pegs in our hall.  Just four for adults!

• Boating/sailing cagoule that's properly* waterproof
• Lightweight down jacket 
• Softshell that's waterproof enough if I walk fast.
• Warmer softshell that I don't care if it gets filthy.
• Denim jacket
• Long wool coat
• Pack-a-mac jacket that doesn't breath at all, but gets thrown into a bag occasionally if I'm going to be gone for a few days but don't want to lug a coat around

 

*handles head-on "WTF are we out on a boat in this?" storms with no shelter.

Then I have my hoody so usually wear a mix of them and it gets me by.

Long military style coat (this was a bargain too good to pass on so I haven't got rid of its still serviceable predecessor).

Pea coat with removable inner collar.

Leather blazer.

Linen blazer.

Seersucker blazer.

Brocade long "dressing up" coat.

Another long "dressing up" coat with metal and pleather bits (sadly the fake leather needs repair).

Leather biker style from may years ago that I can't bear to say goodbye to.

Dayglo orange "oil rig" type coat inherited from my dad for the foulest of weathers.

Couple of free festie hoodies that I treat more as jumpers.

I'm guessing we're not including waistcoats.

 

Pair of ankle boots (lace with side zip for speed) as my daily wear.

A pair of biker style boots (plus replacements for both the above bought on offer).

Leather sliders.

Croc style (both the above for quick trips into the garden).

Leather sandals.

Slippers (plus replacements bought on offer).

A pair of shoes that I haven't worn for years just in case there is somewhere they are necessary.

Wellies.

 

Also a leather Australian "stockman" style hat for most of the year and a straw Panama for the hot weather.
