Hi Everyone,

Not sure if anyone could shed any light on this, One of the schools I manage has their Net2 Server running on a windows 10 machine, I'd like to move this to a Windows Server VM. Is there anything I need to know or should it just be the case of backing up the config on Net2, installing the server onto the new VM and importing the config.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

I’ve done this twice.

Back up your Net2 configuration (database), onto a network file share. Whilst on the existing Net2 Server, I took screenshots of the network configuration (TCP/IP tab), but I don’t have many ACUs. Shut down the Net2 Server service or the entire PC.

I would recommend contacting Paxton to get the latest Net2 v7 files and install the latest version on your new Windows Server. It doesn’t have to be the same version as the current machine, but note, if you’re on an older version, you’ll need to allow your ACUs to update as well. Follow the installation prompts, and select the right version (Pro or Lite). Once installed, open the Net2 Configuration Utility and import the database backup. Attempt to ping and connect the ACUs on the TCP/IP tab, and ensure the checkboxes are ticked, then click Apply. The ACUs should try and download the latest firmware. If they are daisy chained ACUs this may take a while.

The readers can be used in the meantime and will send up any data during downtime back to your new Net2 Server when it is online.

Be careful with the software version you install as we have been made aware that if you have NET2 classic ACU's hey will stop working on the newest version of the software, we are in the process of swapping out our classics in readiness for the latest version.

I've done this multiple times. Just note that when you do an upgrade of the version, if the ACU's need to firmware update they will lock up in the process and none will be able to used the doors while they update.

I'd only do this in the holidays due to this disruption.

Paxton Net2 v7 Integration

Paxton has officially released Net2 v7 on 3 February 2026. We are currently working to ensure full compatibility and support for Net2 v7 within Salamander Integration Suite, and our target is to deliver this support by April 2026.

Until this updated support is available, we strongly recommend that all Salamander Integration Suite customers remain on Paxton Net2 v6 to ensure uninterrupted synchronisation of existing Paxton Net2 processes.

I’m in the same situation. I volunteer for a small charity and need to move Net2 Lite from an old PC to a new machine, but I don’t have version 6.9. Do you know where I can download it? I’d prefer not to upgrade to version 7 because our controllers are still the classic type.

Call support they are very helpful and can get you what you need, also they can advise the best upgrade path:

I have version Net2 Lite: 6.00.7619.6120 with only a few doors on it and approx. 100 users and works well still. Just to note I tried to install this version on a Win11-25H2 PC and it fails (PowerShell errors), Version 6 can only be installed on Win11-23H2 or previous Win11 versions .  Will look at possible upgrade routes in the summer but everything works fine with version 6 on Win11-23H2

Okay, thank you. I emailed them a few weeks ago but didn’t receive a response, so I’ll call them tomorrow.

Hmm, okay. That means I’ll need to downgrade to Windows 11 23H2. The new PC the charity bought came with Windows 11 25H2 installed. Thanks.

Yes i tried a lot of ways to get it working on 25H2 and no joy, wasted half a day so went back to 23H2.

Using Net2 6.9.x on Windows 11 25H2 OK here.

My version was 6.0 maybe 6.9 does work?  did you encounter any PowerShell errors when installing Net2? as that is what i encountered and no workaround fixed it.

Started using Net v6 approx. 6-7 years ago, and kept upgrading ever since staying at v6.9.x for now (pre v7.x) and don't remember any issues tbh.

100% didn't work for me as 6.0 needs PowerShell 2.0 and windows 25H2 doesn't have it and now way to enable or reinstall it.

More detail

🔹 Windows 11 23H2

  • Includes PowerShell 2.0 as an optional feature
  • You can enable it via:
    • Windows Features
    • DISM / PowerShell commands
  • This is why Net2 Lite works on your 23H2 system

🔹 Windows 11 25H2 (and newer builds)

  • PowerShell 2.0 is fully removed
  • Not just disabled — the files are gone from the OS
  • Cannot be:
    • Installed
    • Enabled
    • Restored with ZIP or EXE

What this means for you

Version PS 2.0 Net2 Lite 6.00
23H2 Available Works
25H2 Removed Breaks

Final recommendation

I'll have a look at installing 6.9 as could really do with upgrading the PC its installed on to 25H2 but i couldn't find the installer but will email their support for it

We're running 6.7 currently which works fine on 25H2 (have to run the install silently though as the Client option is greyed out otherwise).

We still run 3 doors on the classic controllers so that rules out upgrading to v7 at the moment (plus we're using the Pro version which would incur another expense 🤣)

Just a quick update, I contacted their support team directly. They asked for details including our current version, the version we wanted to install, the new PC specifications, Windows version, and controller details. Within five minutes, they emailed me a download link (V6.9) along with installation instructions.
Overall, it was excellent customer service.

I have now installed the software on the new PC, and everything is working fine. I would recommend calling them directly, as I didn’t receive a response via email. Thanks everyone for responses and helping out. Thanks to everyone for your responses and support.
