Network Shared Calender???

I have had a request from some of the admin team if it is possible to have a calender that all staff can access and use for sharing dates of assignments, exams, and excursions etc. Does anyone use something like this on your networks and if so what is it. I have thought of a web based browser but we do not run seperate admin and student domains so I'm not sure how to make it staff view only?

Exchange/Outlook perhaps? - OR Alternatively if you use Windows Server 2003 - you can install SharePoint [free edition] which has built in Calendars which you can restrict to certain AD groups and integrates seamless with AD!

We have our own exchange server on site, with all staff having email, Though only a few use outlook, the rest only have OWA. I did think about sharing calenders through Outlook, but need something simplier (yes some of the staff are that useless with computers!)

Always thought that we needed a licence for sharepoint. Might be worth looking into.

zimbra, exchange (and horde I think) do this - alternatively there are a bunch of web apps that would also do what you want such as:

If you use a web calendar of some description, can you not set the permissions on it to staff only at folder level?

Sharepoint would be my fav - especially as you can set permissions per ad group, it doesn't require a seperate login and you can set it as your intranet.

I will look into Sharepoint more. I have a server I think I could run it off without too many problems.

If you have an exchange server on site just create a cal in the public folder and give users acess rights as needed?

Hi... this thread has been most helpfull so far...

 

Basically ive setup the sharepoint.. and its brilliant so far....

 

But what I want to do is run the sharepoint on another server.. not the one that sorts the AD... so how do I sort permission for users to use my sharepoint thats on another server....
