Humble Bundle is a good site for cheaper games aswell, esp the "Choice" bundle, as it throws a handful of games at you a month for £12, Normally 1/2 AA/AAA Games and then some older or indie stuff. (last months big was WWE25)

Really good if you want to try new things

Lover of Single Player Games here, because I am rubbish at multiplayer.

 

I have a love of a good story and if you like JRPG style games (and Studio Ghibli) I can highly recommend "Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch" 

 

This game does not hold punches with the story and emotions and there is some craziness (which you get with all JRPGs), but it is so so enjoyable, and all major cutscenes are animated by Studio Ghibli, and Mr Drippy, King o' the fairies is just a quality character

Astrometica - basically Subnautica in space with less space creatures and a more peaceful on exploring (low cost early access steam game). Development going well.

Penkura - Another exploring/building/mining game with a Sci-Fi feeling. Development has really picked up in recent weeks (creator basically fell long term ill and mainly recovered).

Planet Crafter - another build/craft.

 

I'm a little obsessed with early access games lately. Been so disappointed with the big high cost games.....    £70 to be bored and finish once or £15-£25 to get tons of hours of game play and return a few months later after updates. Even after full release like Planet Crafter, they keep updating it..   1 bit of cheap DLC..  more free updates.

Agree. The amount of small team early access stuff on steam that is actually pretty good quality is a bit of an 80's living room game developer renaissance.

I have heard of the Humble Bundle but not looked into it.  The games they sell, are they keys for Steam?

 

I've only recently gotten into the PSN catalog as I was mainly Xbox as far as online connected consoles goes (they have decent backwards compatibility all the way back to the original Xbox), but lately Microsoft has completely lost their minds.  I saw a video of a "nose ring patient" whining that he lost his job at Microsoft for celebrating political assassinations and it really drove home how nuts those guys are.

 

PSN seems to have the same AAA games but also a lot of titles that I had never heard of before that have been pretty interesting.  They also give away three games a month like Microsoft USED to do.  The storage situation on the PS5 is a lot easier to manage with the M.2 expansion slot as well.  The one thing I will say though is I MUCH prefer the Microsoft gamepad over Sony's.  For one they didn't require a new gamepad going from last gen to current, and Playstation controllers have always cramped my hands.  They are just too dang small.  For RPGs and relaxed play type games they are OK, but for FPS and frantic action games they cause cramps.  I just keep a couple of sets of rechargeable AA batteries near the console so I never have to charge the controller, I just swap the batteries out.

 

I appreciate all the recommendations y'all have listed.  That is one thing I still like about Xbox, they still have real reviews.  You have to read them though, they manipulate the star ratings to try to sell games.  Like with Failguard, you won't see any reviews over two stars, most are one stars and the overall rating is four on the title page.  Reading what y'all are into will definitely give me some new titles to try.

I've been absolutely loving playing the Final Fantasy VII Remake this last week or so!

I might be several years late to the party, but i refused to buy a playstation for it and refused again when Epic wanted an absolute fortune for it.  

A steam key on green man gaming was just £20 last week so i treated myself!

My goodness it is fun and absolutely beautiful to look at! They've realised the world in a beautiful way and fleshed out the characters to give them all such depth!

The combat system is fantastic and there's much more of the city to explore than the original game allowed.  Fights are challenging and they've taken old enemies and developed them in entertaining ways.

 

I'm just over halfway through and will be looking for a cheap copy of Rebirth after finishing Yuffie's bonus content.

Tried Greedfall over the weekend, controls are rage inducing but has good bones.

 

I Will go Against the grain and say Gamepass is still exceptionally good value, even if it is expensive. 

Cloud gaming is far better than i expected it to be aswell, i can see the 2030s gen of console being a thin client 

 

 

Need to get Just Cause redownloaded, been hankering to play flying squirrel explosive sim

I Finished rebirth recently, I was hooked, I was literally coming home from work and playing it, all my free time went to it.

I am too old and broken to play games that need reactions, so it's turn based stuff for me. Have put a couple of playthroughs into Xcom, and also the not-as-good-not-a-sequel-but-still-fun Chimera squad.

Currently playing Wartales, which is alright.

 

If it counts as games, I also play a couple of the games on Linkedin (theres a few timed daily word game type things on there) where I always get pipped by one D Foulks.

I'm a big fan of shmups, but with bullet hell now a feature in a large chunk of offerings I find myself going back to a couple of very good shooters from a Polish game house called Infinite Dreams. They made two Sky Force games, Sky Fore Reloaded and Sky Force Anniversary. Both are very solid shooters with a great game mechanic to ease you in.
I'm also playing a lot of Wii U and Switch games, and lets face it, Nintendo are the masters of single payer gameplay these days.
I really do have to get back into Minecraft too! I've been away from there far too long.

Did you play Phoenix Point yet?  It's meant to be the spiritual successor to the X-Com games.  Been on my "to play" list for ages, just never got around to it.

I was actually disappointed with FF7 Rebirth. The constant minigames was annoying for me and the constant sense of Assassins Creed - go to an area. Unlock area by getting to locations multiple times. Go to new area and repeat. Still, the story was good. The look good. Tons of content. Sadly though.. not a fan of the combat system. Never have been a fan of hack n slash RPG types. Basically target a weakness until stagger. 

 

Phoenix Point: Played that, a lower budget version and alright (there's Xenonauts too). More like the original XCOM compared to the rebooted versions. I must admit.. I've been waiting for a new XCOM which seems to be ages..  loved War of the Chosen. The music. The cutscenes. The characters. Voice acting. Story. Base. Tactics. I think the only thing I missed was the freedom to build more bases etc.

 

Bunch of demos released on Steam.

Star Trek Voyager: Pretty good. Although it feels like a mobile game design. Totally be buying it.

The Signal: Pretty good - craft/builder with an actual story. Samefor this. Must buy.

 

Got about 6 others installed and need to try out when I find the time.

It's basically the Kingdom Hearts battle system (and yes I do like me some Kingdom Hearts)

Very briefly. I had it on PS4, and my wife didn't like it, so we didn't play it longer than a few hours. PS4 is currently not set up - might wishlist it on steam, and if it comes up cheap, give it a go.

 

Of the turn-based games I have definitely enjoyed, Divinity was good, but never managed to beat the end boss. Probably do with another playthrough, but also got that on PS. Never really liked Baldur's Gate. Got half way through and got bored. The wasteland games were good, I liked them.  There is nothing out there though that is quite as good as Xcom.

Y'all just clued me in to a good easy going RPG.  I looked into Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.  www.loaded.com had a Steam key for it for about six dollars.  These days I prefer to play simple stuff like that on console, so I checked the Playstation Store and it was still listed for fifty bucks.  They did have a sale on some of the other games in that series though.  They had a sale on Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom for about nine bucks and it seems to scratch that easy going somewhat sane RPG itch.  Put a couple of hours into it yesterday and it looks promising.

 

When y'all mentioned shmups it brings back to memory the old Apogee games.  I still have Raptor Call of the Shadows on one of my PCs somewhere.  I remember playing Stargunner back in the day and I think I have it on my GoG account now.  I remember on Raptor depending on what holiday was on the calendar it would change up the enemies, that was a surprise.

 

I see a lot of FF7 remakes and I just can't understand what the difference is in them.  I think I actually have the original on my Xbox account.  On Playstation Plus I think they have one or two of the remakes but I don't know how the story fits in to the original.  If anyone knows where it's best to start please chime in.

 

The Witcher 3 complete edition on Xbox was one of the better games I had played in years.  I've got Cyberbug but haven't given it a try since they fixed it up.

So the FFVII remake is going to be a trilogy of games.

Partially because corporate greed and wanting people to play three time but actually because it's a damned hard thing to make in just one game.  

You start with Remake which follows cloud and avalanche's story up until they leave Midgar.  It's massively fleshed out with 30-40 hours of main atory and 80-90 hours for a completionist.

Next up is Rebirth which continues the story into the wider world, ending with the fateful events in the Forgotten city. It's a bigger game with 40-50 hours main story and a completionist time of over 150 hours!

The final game isn't out yet but will see the story to it's conclusion, opening up the rest of the world and introducing the Highwind.

 

The remake project isn't entirely true to the original, but that's addressed in-game and is so far really cool.

it's definitely worth the £20 i paid for the Steam key.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is taking a lot of my free time. Got a Stream Deck and mapped all the functions requiring a Keyboard and mounted that to the stand for my Logitech G920 with a 3D printed adapter. There is Truckers Tim channel on YouTube where he has built a full rig with a truck cab with 4 large monitors mounted on the windscreen, very impressive.

I don't know Dave, I'm playing the Trails in the Sky Remake, and there is a part of me that wishes Square Enix had taken that route instead for FFVII...

 

The other issue is that the technical requirements for Rebirth is so high I don't have anything to play it on! I've tried on my SteamDeck and I may as well cover the screen in vasoline
