6Foot2 Posted January 16, 2025 Posted January 16, 2025 Introducing Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to Nintendo Switch, releasing in 2025. 2
ZeroHour Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 Pricing and details are coming out now: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2025/04/nintendo-offers-new-details-on-switch-2-hardware-software/
Norphy Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 £400. I wasn’t expecting it to be cheap, but that seems excessive.
ITGuyNW Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 Pre ordered from Smyths last night. All I want is a system that plays Zelda properly. BOTW and TOTK were frustrating to play at 30fps or below. I tried playing them "other ways" but they would crash a few hours into the game.
DalekSec Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 I want it but can't afford it at current, too many bills to pay!
Zoom7000 Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 I had the original model, won in a competition via EduGeek - Thanks @Net-Ctrl - It was great, but I can't justify the cost on a new one. The only games I was really ever interested in were the Mario games, of which I played the following: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Super Mario Odyssey Super Mario Maker 2 Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Super Mario Wonder 1
Dos_Box Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 I'm going to buy a second hand Switch Mk1 soon. I always loved the Switch games due to playability, and the fact you don't have to spend the first hour of the game learning just how all the controls work. I bought my kids one when they first came out and was always impressed with it. I can't justify buying a new one, especially after the disappointment of the Xbox One X. I'd sold my One S to offset costs only to find that the games are pretty much the same and all game companies did was reskin their older titles to 4k! A Switch is perfect for a casual gamer like me.

Oh well, I probably wouldn't have used it that much anyway ....

Though the new Metroid and Mario Kart titles look pretty slick too. 1
ITGuyNW Posted April 4, 2025 Posted April 4, 2025 Lot of people on the Internet complaining about Nintendo prices when I remember buying Donkey Kong 64 for £69.99 at Argos. Regular games were also £55-£60. Pricing got aggressive afterwards with GC as they were competing with PS2 and Xbox, but since then they've been kinda stable at around £40-£45. Console prices seem to be the massive driver in costs although in Japan the Switch 2 is only £250.

The vast majority of N64 carts were not just basic memory cards in a bespoke configuration. The vast majority of video games are now sold digitally, direct from the manufacturer. There are no distributors, no manfacturing, no shipping, no storage, no middle men on the sale of the game. Especially first party games. Not like Nintendo are top slicing 30% from themselves (which is still a lot cheaper than the amount lost from traditional sales) No box. No manual... Also, video game developers generally actually finished the game in the 90s when they shipped it at that price, rather than shipping it half fixed and spending 2 years throwing out patches till it's in a properly usable state. ITGuyNW Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 Waiting for DPD to kick into gear to deliver mine although it seems theres plenty of store stock around. 1
Dos_Box Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 My son is getting one. Looks like it should arrive today via Royal Mail (according to the tracking).
DalekSec Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 Mine was due to be delivered between 8-12... its now 12:08
andy_nic Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 (edited) Collected mine but not tried it yet, from smyths toy store last night from mid night never been to mid night launch before, was bit all over the place as there was 2 lines preorders and people who turning up to by if stock is there. To start with people who preordered were told we can't buy games or accessories only collect what was on our preordered , the buy people queue seems to go quite quick, with pre order line stuck pass the 12:30 time end time, Then people who had preordered but not collect theirs yet got told we could buy games and accessories. Did hear some stores closed at 12:30 as the event was 12:01 till 12:30, my store stayed open as i got in just as it turned 12:30 with people who still hadn't collected but were still waiting in line. So I went home at lunch to wait for the parcel andddd its turned up water damaged! Well the cardboard is definitely soggy and the box feels very very mildly damp but yeah... not a good start. Took a load of photos in case this goes further..
flyinghaggis Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 Mine’s scheduled for delivery this evening so will fire it up and give Mario kart tour a try tonight. Keen to try out Zelda as well to see how the upgraded visuals look in TOTK and BOTW. Has anyone tried the GameCube emulation?
ovenchips Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 Mine arrived and didn't get pinched! Will be giving it a crack when I get home, defo giving the gamecube stuff a pop ASAP.

All unboxed and all seems to be well A couple of snags/annoyances 1. We already have a couple of switches, so thinking which way round to set things up with virtual game cards and online licences took a moment. 2. This is probably more my TV than the Switch, but the picture is a bit bloomed/bright. I assume HDR shenanigans but I will investigate this weekend.

Did it not go though the HDR setup when turned on? mine did. Only issue i had so far was the store crashed when i went download mario kart and i had to force it off, apart from that had no issues

She got the postman to witness that it had been tampered with. She thinks that they may have stolen\copied the Mario Kart code. Fingers crossed for this not being the case. This was after they sent it on a trip to Morcambe yesterday from the local sorting office.

I noticed the HDR issue as well - I found that it's forcing HDR on even for apps that don't support it. If you go into the display settings, you can set it to only enable HDR on supported apps, and it'll instantly look better as it'll turn it off for the dashboard.
