We are North Hampshire based. At one sports day we have the speakers centrally located but at the other location we are restricted to being on the hill above the field due to distance from the building for power so I imagine some of the problem there is the sound will be travelling over the heads of the crowd.
-
I believe the speakers are these ones - https://electromarket.co.uk/vonyx-vps152a-15-inch-active-pa-dj-speakers-with-bluetooth-stands-bags?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19752220993&gbraid=0AAAAAD8khilup3-r5BemaLZscSbilAwxI&gclid=Cj0KCQjwj47OBhCmARIsAF5wUEF1WN7Q3cxEO8P-DAFRnLkEVNKnoy3ySpzr68E9QT9Jx-kSK-32_JoaAvgLEALw_wcB The microphone is a wired microphone, although not the one that came with the speakers. We don't have any extra mixers for it though so maybe that might be the solution.

Could anyone share what they use for sports day audio in a primary school? We have a two speaker 1000W PA system that we use but every year after the event I get complaints that it's not loud enough. We do have quite a large field though for one of our sites. The main complaint is usually that the microphone for announcements isn't loud enough rather than the music. What do you do for announcements?

Information screen and delivering information to it
icechris replied to Sonic007's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We use info-beamer on a raspberry pi for our reception screens. One screen is free but we've got 2 screens running now on it so it costs us about £90 a year in credits. -
I've had something similar happening with a student level account I have set up on Chrome on my Mac. My adult account works fine but everytime I reboot the Mac the pupil profile vanish from Chrome and has to be signed in and synced again. Never used to happen so there must have been something changed by Google recently.

Exemplar Education Breach Emails
icechris replied to DWakely's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We received this in our spam filters and spoke to ICO who said we didn't need to take any action unless they contact us. I did however click his unsubscribe link so if he emails again we can report him to ICO. It appears to be linked to this story in the Times https://www.thetimes.com/uk/society/article/the-great-private-tutoring-rip-off-hbx8pgs3d It looks like the company offered finance contracts like a phone contract which people aren't happy to still be in. -
Google are advertising some sort of special event happening on the 27th Sept to celebrate turning 27 so there might be some decent discounts on the Pixel range. The 9a is £499 at the moment and I'm pretty sure the 8a was under £300 in their last big sale earlier in the year.

We’ve had this issue happening for over a month now. CPOMS said it was fixed in April, but more users have vanished this week as well!

Mario Kart priced at £75 is ridiculous

The way I read the statement is they won't provide help if there is an issue? Google does not support installing ChromeOS Flex on a ChromeOS device that can no longer receive automatic updates. While you might be able to install ChromeOS Flex on Intel or AMD x86 ChromeOS devices, we don’t support devices that can’t automatically receive updates. You might have issues with firmware and hardware compatibility, installation, and updates. It is definitely possible to install the Flex OS onto the old HP's (I think might even be the same model as yours) as I've done around 10 so far. You need to remove the R/W screw on the motherboard to be able to install it. I used this guide - https://docs.mrchromebox.tech/docs/getting-started.html I'm hoping we can get a year or two further out of them before we have to replace them. edit; I couldn't attach the image I was going to attach but I can drop you a PM with some info if you want.

We've had Senso running for a year or so and all of a sudden we're finding that we're not getting any logs through. Looking at the Developer Console on the Chromebooks it looks like the Policies are failing to download due to API request failures. Has anyone experienced this and solved it? So far we've had no luck from Senso or from our ISP who provided Senso to us. It's not even working on a clear unfiltered line. Strangely the system seems to work outside of school hours but the second the school is open it stops working for most users!

Our imports are broken completely atm as we've changed MIS and CPOMS still haven't replied to any of our queries asking how we update the system to pull the new MIS's information. We can't get hold of anyone via the phone, it just rings and rings and we've had no responses to emails or voicemails. Not impressed at the moment as we've now been without updates to the system since the 6th January.

I got a activation failed - too many requests throttled message so I assume they can't cope with the number of attempts at the moment. I'm going to leave it 24 hours.

Google Workspace Gmail - Allow Gmail, but only internally.
icechris replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
If you have a OU for pupils, you can goto the Admin Console > Apps > Gmail and choose Compliance. There is an option in there for Restrict Delivery. We've set up mail lists for email addresses they are allowed (we whitelisted google classroom emails so they would get those), there is a message you can have for rejection notices and then an option for bypassing for internal messages. The sender externally gets the message from the rejection noticed page with a message that it is blocked. The sender doesn't get a message though, the email is just dropped before it is sent. I've not been able to get it to show a message to the sender.- 1 reply

We use https://www.classroombookings.com/ for our primary school. Not had any problems with it but we just use it to book out computing trolleys not anything more than that. It's very cost effective though as you can self-host for free or pay £149 for a cloud version.

We are using Info-Beamer https://info-beamer.com/ running on Raspberry Pi's to run our welcome screens and displays in our libraries. Very easy to use and relatively cheap - if running one device you can do it for free, we pay around £2.50 a week but suspend it during holidays so the credit doesn't decrease.

Our school has been down since Saturday. It was reported by myself at 7.45 am on Monday and the infant school also reported it in the morning as well. We are now online again but only thanks to Virgin Media Business who I called on Tuesday and have spent the last 24 hours investigating and resolving the outage. In the 48+ hours since you have been aware of the issue I have had TWO automated API messages about fixes for slow internet speeds. Not one message in response to my updates, not one message to say we're investigating or contacting our suppliers. I tried calling the helpdesk on Monday afternoon for an update and was sent to a voicemail - no-one followed up. I also tried calling Tuesday morning and first call was not answered, second call the agent tried transferring me twice to another department but then cut me off.

DfE sites are not loading for us on SBB either. Microsoft loaded slowly but is working.

Schoolsbroadband, speed issues, connectivity?
icechris replied to Alastairb25's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We're now having speed issues at one of our sites today for the first time, not noticed it this week so far while our other site remains completely down with no response from SBB still! -
This is one we bought via our IT support company and paid for extended warranty on! Won't be doing that again! They've advised that Dynabook have pulled out of the UK market which is why the repairs are probably taking a long time.
-
Has anyone had any experience with a warranty repair for a Dynabook laptop? We sent a device off the first week of January and we still don't have a repaired machine back. They keep pushing the date back due to no parts but they've now had it for over 55 days and have said it won't be in until at least the 7th March at the earliest.

We were loaned one by a hospital when one of our children was in for Chemo treatment. It was a pain to set up due to issues with proxies but when it was resolved it worked pretty well. It wasn't used a lot though.

SignIn App - Returning Students issue
icechris replied to njreynolds's topic in How do you do....it?
I believe our reception team are just manually overwriting any issues like this. I know that we queried some things with Sign-In and they said for our MIS it can write late times in but can't write times out which was annoying.
