Popular Post mikeprice Posted October 17, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 17, 2023 (edited) Finally a proper research project has been done on one of the major mysteries of modern - and possibly many previous - civilisations Yes - the mystery of where all the teaspoons go https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/teaspoon-loss-study_uk_652e4a09e4b00565b6214ff0 personally I though all the missing teaspoons disappeared into a parallel universe and re-appeared in old toolboxes as a ratchet screwdriver then, after an unknown period of time, that evolved into a strange shaped piece of metal that you knew had to be kept but were not exactly sure why which would explain the bottom of the toolbox I inherited from my Dad but I still want to know what happened to the old original type of AA badge he had with his name and membership number on it?????? anyway - any idea, comments, suspicions, stories, magic spells??? I laughed at the article but the research paper had me in stitches.

This is our place! 50 tea spoon bought at the start of September and as of this morning not a single one!
howartp Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Never mind the article or the teaspoons - I've just been making clicking noises! (See OP's footer) 2

mikeprice Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 Never mind the article or the teaspoons - I've just been making clicking noises! (See OP's footer) After all these years someone finally noticed!!!!! my life is complete!! or - more likely - someone noticed and mentioned it rather than sighing, refusing to take the bait and moved on while desperately trying not to invoke any frog spells (you know who you are!!!)
dcwhitworth Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Teaspoons are migratory herd creatures. A herd of them will drift into a kitchen, linger a while and then move on, it's a simple as that. 1
mikeprice Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 I always wondered about the mugs in my old school staff room They hung around more than teaspoons but still migrated after time especially nice ones - my Wallace and Gromit one never re-appeared even when I put out an appeal Sometimes I thin that mischievous imps and elves must actually exist and move things when we are not looking (and tangle cables that we laid in perfect order - clearly)
elsiegee40 Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Teaspoons live in a parallel universe and not where they’re needed. I solved the mug problem by buying one from eBay custom printed with my forename all over it in different fonts and different colours. As my forename isn’t common, that stopped my mug going walkies instantly. It was so successful that our registrar, who also had a less common forename, asked for the link and bought one with her name all over it 1
southhamster Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 At my last school the teaspoons did the disappearing thing but then sometimes we would have so many the kitchen would not have enough and they would stage a raid to take a load back. Mugs on the other hand seemed to multiply so much we had an annual cull. It's a mystery!

Mugs on the other hand seemed to multiply so much we had an annual cull. It's a mystery! We had a raid from catering recently, took all the mugs and glasses they "own" from the staffroom and are searching the school. Still got one in my desk draw they haven't found yet
mikeprice Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 I tried writing my name on my Wallace and Gromit mug But I found it in the Science Prep room some time later and it had been removed clearly ordinary washing removes permanent marker from shiny mugs - but I have suspicions that someone else knows about solvents (note - in that school there were more Chemistry degrees in the IT department - teaching and support - than in the Science department!!!)
36Degrees Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 my Wallace and Gromit one never re-appeared even when I put out an appeal And that's why none of my mugs are left anywhere unattended - especially my Wallace and Gromit one! 2
hardtailstar Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Im waiting for the research done on missing socks. I wear black trainer socks and they all go missing even though they get put in a bag in the washing machine and tumble dryer. By the time they are moved from the tumble dryer to my wardrobe I've lost many!! 1

I wear black trainer socks and they all go missing even though they get put in a bag in the washing machine and tumble dryer. By the time they are moved from the tumble dryer to my wardrobe I've lost many!! Many years ago I got round this by implementing a policy of only ever buying socks in large quantities - at least 8 pairs - all identical - at the same time That way when I want to find a pair - pretty much any 2 socks will form a pair recently Mrs mikeprice has chucked a spanner in the works by buying me socks for Christmas - all different colours and patterns PLUS - the VeryPC socks only come in single pairs and not sets of 20 so I am slowly building up a corner of the sock drawer with unmatched socks!!!!

All my socks are black trainer socks, around 30 pairs or at least there should be! I have my VeryPC socks for special occasions like when I wear trousers...... 2
Ketlane Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 When socks disappear they mutate into Tupperware lids which don't fit any of the boxes you have. However most desk drawers are breeding spaces for Bic pen lids. 1

They also get covered in paint which, unlike permanent magic marker, is impossible to remove without a chisel. 2

aerospacemangoQPR Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I would've thought he'd be too busy with The Cure to get involved in such research...but good on him, anyway!
Dos_Box Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I want to know how teaspoons change from one type to another. For example, you could buy a pack of 8 new teaspoons and put them in your cutlery drawer. Within three months, at least 4 will have developed designs and shapes different from their siblings. And breed.
