Popular Post chazzy2501 Posted September 22, 2023 Popular Post Posted September 22, 2023 fell from car roof.... Can you believe the screen is ok and it works, touchpad and keyboard! 7
Popular Post Garacesh Posted September 22, 2023 Popular Post Posted September 22, 2023 But you can fix it, right? I really need it for period 1 geography in 20 minutes.. 11
Dos_Box Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 (edited) 'And you're sure you hadn't knocked it on anything?' That is quite a fall it had and very surprised it's functioning as a corcer impact usually breaks everything! Edited September 22, 2023 by Dos_Box 1
korifugi Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 (edited) I'd say that's a fairly good advert for the build quality of HP Probooks.... You're now triggering memories of a laptop that had been left out in it's case all night (heavy rain) against a back wheel of a car that was reversed over said laptop (back AND front) wheels the following morning..... Where's the PTSD EduHobNobs??? Edited September 22, 2023 by korifugi 1

korifugi Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 'Can you make it work? I have a class in 10 mins....' ...cue maniacal laughter. 1
PotNoodleTech Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Been there done that - bend the chassis back carefully, clip/glue everything else in - hey presto working again. We don't buy metal chassis'd chromebooks any more as they have been ultra problematic with regards to bending and snapping screen hinges. Plastic with robber edges for the win!
Popular Post chazzy2501 Posted September 22, 2023 Author Popular Post Posted September 22, 2023 welp, not perfect but some TA will be happy with a blazing fast buckled laptop Used some pliers and epoxy (for plastics internal, still curing) 7
Slarty66 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Wow! Mad thing is we have just been handed a staff laptop with a broken screen caused by closing the lid with a pencil nestling on the keyboard. We better not give them any ideas......
Net_Man Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Why I should have to pay for the damage even though it fell off my car roof and I was the one who left it there. Why not claim from the school insurance policy... technically the car park is still part of the school! 1
Ditto Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 welp, not perfect but some TA will be happy with a blazing fast buckled laptop Used some pliers and epoxy (for plastics internal, still curing) Impressive, and the fact the teacher gets it back still showing signs of the *little* bump; priceless! One other thing I have to ask, in the first photo, in the background, why the need for IBM formatted floppy disks I mean, it looks as though it is still shrink-wrapped!

Reminds me of the time a trainee teacher brought a bent MS Surface in. It had a perfectly matched, double bend profile of being sat on 1
Davit2005 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 (edited) Reminds me of the time a trainee teacher brought a bent MS Surface in. It had a perfectly matched, double bend profile of being sat on Maybe heated seats had malfunctioned :-) No but I've had the "I lent it to my daughter who downloaded some dodgy games file and now it is infected with virus but I need it in back in 10mins", I guess at least they were honest but I still weren't happy and this was a head of department too. Norphy Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 why the need for IBM formatted floppy disks I mean, it looks as though it is still shrink-wrapped! What, would you rather they were formatted for a Mac, an Amiga or an Archimedes instead? 3
Ditto Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Well, now you put it that way, given my avatar, probably this so I can use my Technology Research Beta interface - but we are probably getting off topic, so better move on in case one of the new mods spots us!
mikes Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 'And you're sure you hadn't knocked it on anything?' Been told "I don't know how it could have happened!" many times Laptop stops booting - open the back and water starts dripping out "Oh I may have cleaned it with a wet-wipe" 🤣

One other thing I have to ask, in the first photo, in the background, why the need for IBM formatted floppy disks I mean, it looks as though it is still shrink-wrapped! it is still shrink wrapped, also behind is a BBC Micro game on 5/14 floppy called Exile. On a shelf below that are some Acorn tape games. Never know what you'll find at the back of an old cupboard! (I saved stuff back in 2005-6 that was being chucked), I had no room back then for 5 old laptops, that I still regret. (1980's/90 lugtops with full size mechanical keys) 1
PotNoodleTech Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 How about this one? Found scattered in our local train station after pupil was, ahem, asked to leave this school. :-/ (pls don't take it out on my lovely chromebooks) 1
