Does anyone use BRSK for their home broadband? They are starting to move in to our area and we are considering them as an option instead of our current VirginMedia broadband. Does anyone have any comments/complaints with them?

Never heard of them, seem to have coverage in Manchester, Blackburn, Bunrley and Bradford. I've had a look on ISP review only 1 review which was positive.

I'm guessing they are an AltNet, I've got similar problem up here when I move in a few months, the company behind it MS3 I know well but the smaller front end companies there nothing and have nothing to go on. The fact you are not seeing loads of bad reviews maybe a positive, do you know anyone on them locally?

Yes, they've covered all our area (Bingley/Keighley) and are getting excellent traction.

I've got them at home and at church and a lot of folk are moving to them from Virgin Media and others.

I heard a story couple of months ago from a local; he had a problem with BRSK and the engineer was there within the hour to fix it. (Possibly because they were in the area still flooding all the main roads with fibre ready to add customers at the drop of a hat, but even so)

**BUMP**

My Virgin contract is up early next year and I've just had a flyer through for BRSK and wonder if anything has changed in the past couple of years since this thread was created.
If any of you are BRSK customers then please let me know your thoughts as they do offer some very (very) competitive packages compared to Virgin and as my street is now fully fibred up I wouldn't mind making the change if they are up to the task.

Still same as above; will recommend them to anyone.

One note to add, I think they did have a batch of routers/contract with a supplier which worked fine for home users but didn't handle edugeek-type users fiddling with settings (eg custom DHCP range, reservations, different default subnet (it defaults back to 192.168.12.x which I changed to match my LAN devices)) and got lost at reboot/firmware update - but I think they've moved to another model/contract/supplier now so I don't think that's a problem any more.

Still waiting for BT to upgrade my fiancé's street where I now live!

Check OpenReach. I still think it is the case that only OpenReach (or their sub contractors) or Virgin Media can dig pavements to run underground cables for Internet/Phone. Phone masts is another option of course. https://www.openreach.com/fibre-checker

It was another provider that alerted me to the availability of Fibre on my street, yes I did go with BT but since was a tenant it was painful, almost 2 years. Next flat had fibre installed (by openreach) and it only took a few months because their provider was not BT, lol.

Ta, I do have a couple of questions, which, whilst not exactly deal breakers, will put my mind at rest:

  1. Do they offer static IP's for home users?
  2. Does the router they supply have a modem mode as I have a decent UniFi EdgeRouter and Ruckus WiFi (ax) I'd like to keep using.

They do offer much faster speeds than Virgin and at a much lower cost, so really looking at the possibility of switching.

They did both on my street. They have fibre up on the phone poles and they put some fibre in the ground last year.

Openreach says we're full fibre, BRSK says there's an issue, but the entire area around us is pink ("Ready for service").

I placed an order on Black Friday 2023 and ran with 4G dongle hanging out the window pending installation which never happened!  Now on Virgin Media but want to switch as soon as I can.

ps - I did see some cables being installed underground last week by a 3rd party comms company but don't know if it was for BRSK.

I see a lot of cabling jobs done by 3rd parties, OpenReach might do the initial investigation then sub it out. Both me and my neighbor had the physical cable laid by 3rd parties.

Static IPs are an extra £5 for their BetterIP product.

Our (old) BRSK routers are both Icotera i4850 which I don't *think* does Modem Only mode.

However in the community centre up the road I bypassed their router and put a TP-Link AC3000 directly onto the Cat6 from the ONT.  Old router is still there ready to power up if they moan when diagnosing issues.

My BT router did not provide modem mode. I've removed it and using a MikroTik now although any decent 3rd party ethernet router should do. The MikroTik connects direct to the ONT via ethernet.

I've generally found BT routers very limiting especially when it comes to IPv6 routing. They should give you a username/password for the PPPoE although with BT you can find it with the BT modem plugged in to the ONT, online and using the BT online website when logged in.

Kinda glad I'm looking to ditch Virgin. Looks like 02 now want me to create\migrate my account with them to manage it, seems weird they want to do it this way:

Another thing that BRSK told me is that they will pay up to £300 to buy you out of an existing contract. It turns out Mine doesn't run out until July 26, so may take them up on that in the new year.

I've been with Brsk since March and can't fault them. On install day without being prompted they planned to go from a pole into the front of the house rather than using the pole already in use that went to the back of the house. A little thing but it made things so much easier for me.
