Help with Stange Display Port/HMDI issue

Are you absolutely sure that this is a hardware issue and not a case of the PowerPoint presenter view setting which takes the screen out of duplicate mode when escaping out at the end of the PP presentation. I am only suggesting it because it is a very common issue here, especially with new staff.

Posted elsewhere but just in case it helps folks who might not see the other thread.

 

One of our team found something worth trying with this and we're now a week since the last call regarding a classroom screen "randomly" losing signal so it might be worth a try if you're seeing the same problem before you start looking too much at updates or drivers or cable lengths.

 

It's a user registry setting

 

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\powerpoint\opt ions

RestoreTopology REG_Dword 0

 

This is alongside GPO settings that we already had in place

 

Microsoft PowerPoint 2016/PowerPoint Options/Advanced

 

Allow PowerPoint to also automatically extend the display when presenting on a desktop - Disabled

Do not allow PowerPoint to automatically extend the display when presenting on a laptop or tablet - Enabled

 

I'm clearly tempting fate posting this but we'll see.

One thing I think you should check is what HDMI standard are your cables. HDMI has evolved from HDMI 1.0 (2002), to HDMI 2.1b (2023). The older cables cannot support 4K @ 60Hz HDR. while latter cables can support the newer starndards.

You might have sorted this by now, but just to add in my two cents on how I fixed a similar issue recently.

We had new PC's in over the summer which were having issues with our projectors not working reliably. i had to unplug them and reboot the pc then plug them back in beforte they would display. We had it set up with the PC monitors with HDMI and the projectors with VGA.

I have now changed the monitors over to DP, and the projectors over to HDMI; so that now both outputs being used are digital rather than one being Digital and one Analouge. This seems to have sorted my issues, so if you have the right adapter/cables it might be worth a try.

ive had this the last week with some new pcs

I ended up having to go to the advanced display settings and then dropped the fps one setting at a time till it synced up ok. cant remember the exact one that worked but it was 59.something

Same issue with a Ilyama interactive TV, ended up being the refresh rate.

I would check the drivers on the laptop make sure bios is up to date any make of laptop

Have you tried the old setup, DP - VGA?

 

Are you monitors also 16:9 and not 4:3?
