Hi

Has anyone used Barracuda Email Protection ?

Had a call with a company today giving us a demo and overview of Barracuda Email protection

https://www.barracuda.com/products/email-protection/features#tabNav

Our schools uses Office365 so they said this works on top of 365

Just wondering though does Microsoft offer an alternative to what Barracuda does? We thinking of moving some of our schools to A3 licensing from A1

MS will not guarantee any data recovery and has this spelled out in a document. Backup companies, such as Barracuda, have made a big thing of this, pushed the hard sell and, IMO, stirred up lots of horror stories due to MS spelling this out.

But, you do have multiple levels of recycle bin for 90 days and files can be versioned so mistakes can be sorted.

As with most backup and recovery solutions you have to look at your organisations situation, risk assess it and work out what you need. It is the IT equivalent of insurance, you pay the money you are comfortable paying and hope you never have to use it. Having a recovery system would be a lot more convenient to restore specific things if the worst happened, such as bad internal actor, but they can be very expensive.

Barracuda do seem to have a good reputation on here and the system looks nice. In my experience though, all the M365 backups seem quite expensive and I have only had 2 occasions where it would have been used but wasn't essential. 1 was a situation where someone was after an email from a 6 month+ leaver but it was no big issue. The other was solved using MS tools but would have been simpler to have a simple place to go to and restore.

We use this! It works really well and users didn't really notice any difference while we switched over (apart from the spam filtering being a lot better, as it blocked genuine externals as they had there email misconfigured). The ATP features seem to work a lot better then the Office 365 ones. Things you just need to careful of when you move is to make sure you turn off Office 365's ATP otherwise users will go through a double link check. We also got the cloud backup solution which works really well as it covers all users whether they are staff or students.

There support is also very good, also been really helpful when we have needed to speak to them. We also looked at ProofPoint and Mimecast.

How did pricing compare? It’s renewal time soon.

It wasn’t bad. We managed to get a discount from our supplier, if you purchase around February time you can get a bit more of a discount as they seem to be end of financial year sales.

Barracuda is licensed by your FTE count and will cover all your students for free, so we have the email protection for all and the backup solution for all. Ended up paying £27.92 per FTE for email protection with advanced bits (which is AI based spam protection and removes it from the users mailbox before they see it) and £13.76 per FTE for the backup solution.

We use it across all our schools. Self release quarantined/ blocked email/ spam has been a massive time saver in itself!

For anyone going out to market on this we work with Mimecast and will soon launch a new campaign for free student licenses. We can run one-on-one sessions with Mimecast to present their solution - if you want pricing first to compare to others please send me a PM and I can start the ball rolling.

Barracuda’s Total Email Protection is more of an all round package which includes the unlimited 365 backup and the cloud archiver - depending on your requirements it will always end up more cost effective than buying the solutions separately.

Hi,

Has anyone considered upgrading to their new "Barracuda Total Email Protection" - looks good but at twice the price is it worth it?

Roughly how much per FTE?

How many FTE is that on as that pricing is a lot less than I have been getting! Which supplier? Feel free to DM.

Is this price for EDU? If so, I'd double check that they've added the edu discount on :D
