Which wireless broandand router?

I've just switched from PlusNET ADSL to Virgin Media 2MB cable (hope I don't regret this in light of other posts I have seen about Virgin!). Anyway, I need to get a wireless broadband router to replace my existing ADSL setup.

 

Does anyone have any recent experience or recommendations for wireless broadband routers fitting the following spec?

 

• 802.11g - I don't need/want any MIMO/N/N+ or whatever
  
• WPA/WPA2 - I definitely want better than WEP this time
  
• uPNP - I know, I know, but it's useful with Azureus Vuze
  
• Affordable - by which I mean < £50 !

I have this one WGT624 does all that you said, had it a while so don't know what current prices are, i have not had any problems (touch wood) with it.

I'm with virgin media, and have to say never had a problem with them in 4 years, just got my 4MB connection upgraded to 10MB for free

 

I have just purchased a wireless router and it's been fantastic, was very easy to setup as well, I also use Vuze

Should haver asked whether you have the ADSL virgin broadband or is it DSL as the router above is for DSL, but I'm sure they have a ADSL version as well

I had that router or one very similar. The adsl version (which I bought) came with a seperate ADSL modem - a 2 box solution. I never used the modem but kept it for future use (it cost an extra £5).

 

Router is excellent - and can be flashed with third party Linux based firmware if required. I'd second this recommendation.

Take a look at Virgin's offers - pretty sure that on some packages they throw in a free wireless router. Depends on your TV needs.

The netgear is a great router, used the 54g one for a uni house for my cousin for 2 years and its just going to be now fitted in a house up in my sisters uni house for a year or more, never missed a beat.

Cant go wrong with Buffallo, Linksys or ZyXEL. I went to Belkins new N1-Series and the router packed up after 6 months, got an RMA, took it back to PC World (only reason i went to PC world was because i needed a router there and then) and managed to get a replacement Linksys + £40 back in my pocket

Nice. Glad to hear you had an excuse for going to PC World. I assume you wore a disguise...

The AirStation arrived today and is now in and running. Quite easy to configure and definitely gives a better signal than my old SpeedTouch box.

I have been with Virgin for a while now and have never had any problems with then *touch wood*

 

I have a good router but has stuff you dont want on it lol. but tbh will be getting rid of it soon as i want a better one. wont go into detail.

 

The Netgears are great for what your after though and fairly cheap too
