Calling All Projector Gurus

Hi guys there's a really knackerd old projector that needs replacing and the bracket at the bottom of the pole is a 3point screw connection and the holes are in set places. The new projector will have the screw holes in all 4corners making this plate no use. Anyone know where I can get the mounting plate for a four corner projector that will slide on the current pole?

 

Also not trying to break the bank.

Just check current pole diameter, they are largely all the same but not always the case.

If your school has a DT department, maybe ask if they can knock up suitably drilled metal plate to fit between the new projector and the existing 3-point plate.

If that’s a standard 55mm (I think that’s what they were - long time since I’ve installed projectors) the. A btec or other universal Mount should fit on.

Assume throw ratio is correct on the projector.

Yeh i stood under the projector holding it in place and the throw is good its just the mount that wont fit. Had a look above the ceiling tiles in the class and it has been fixed to the steel girder above which is good and solid so I would prefer to keep that in place and just change the end piece. Wasn't expecting £100 for the end bit though

You could try one of these. The plate should just bolt on as I think its from the same manufacturer.

 

If not, you will probably find a bolt between the crossbar and the clamp on the end of the pole. If you swap the crossbar over it should almost certainly fit.

That looks like a Unicol Gyrolock fitting, you could buy the universal mount.

Was about to say, i'm sure that is a Sahara mount, but google images didn't match up so I kept my mouth shut!

Sorry - I'd suggest you definitely don't do this. You're putting that over people's heads and if it fails you're the one who has to explain to a parent (and probably a judge) why you chose to bodge a solution that hasn't been load tested by a professional company rather than pay a little bit of money to get the right product. (Especially when something gets thrown at the projector and the metal plate breaks?)

Don’t agree there, sorry. Often our install teams will put the mounts up in the first place, so there is competence required to do that properly. If a mount is built with a degree of technical competence, it will be sufficient - same with any install of kit in the school.

 

Projector mounts aren’t going to be load tested in situ, so you have to use judgment. A piece of 3mm plate bolted up will not fail if done properly.

 

Obviously, no bodges or cable tie nightmares.

It's still risky though in these modern days of health and safey blame theres a claim.

 

If you've got a quality mount bolted to a suitable structure you will be covered and it the proverbial hits the fan the LEA is highly likely to support you too - as soon as you start making random bits of metalwork/woodwork that goes out the window.

Good grief - have you seen how buildings are put together? There's more chance of a ceiling falling down than a simple plate failing.

I've binned dozens of these , use a universal plate on the bottom...
