Who are you all using to deliver your service? Likely be rpelacing ours this year and looking for potential to spec up a new service

Very likely going cloud and removing the PBX on each site

Thanks

We host our own 3CX VM on our central cluster with all sites using that via our WAN.

Out of curiosity, how do you find that runs?

Always been alarmed that 3cx won’t even offer hosting above 120 handsets and obviously going to need more than that across our trust

Thanks,

Steve

Solid as a rock - I've not had any 3cx related downtime in the 5 or so years we've used it. Only downtime we've had was with our old SIP supplier, or with the leased line supplier for one school (OpenReach unplugged it thinking it wasn't in use any more). We have 122 handsets on it at the moment, with a few more being added soon.

We run a 16 channel professional license, and use Gamma as the SIP trunk provider. It lives in a 4 vCPU VM, with 8GB RAM, though that is overkill - it is sat using 0.48GB at the moment. Considerably cheaper to run than any hosted solution - we pay about £70pm for 16 SIP channels (including loads of minutes), and £450pa for the license for 3CX.

Need to have a look into that, Always thought you had to license it based on handsets (as in 120 handsets which is the 32sim license) so that’s cool if you don’t need to

Mind if I throw a few more questions over in a PM later? We are just starting to look at centralising our trust in all areas so lots of research to do :p

Thanks,

Steve

The numbers on their site aren't limits of handsets from what I know, but more "guidelines". You have unlimited handsets with any number of users. At least, that's what I have.

In a school, our "simultaneous lines" calculations are very different to a normal business - we have 122 handsets and during a normal day I rarely see more than 3 calls at a time. Using their calculation, they think I would need close to a 48 sim call license, which would be silly.

Fire away with any questions.

Edit: Click on "Full Feature List" on their pricing page, and under Pro you'll see extensions is "unlimited".

Yarp same as Localzuk (tho a single secondary) - Run just shy of 100 extensions off an on prem box with a 16 channel license with only around 3/4 calls in use at any given time.

Staff can & do install the 3cx app on their personal phones to use the schools minutes, number & protection of recorded voice calls.

Not a fan of 3cx cloud's instance (The primary I help support has it) & it's priced per extension which puts me off it.

Currently looking at this myself. We will host a Yeastar system in AWS and have up to 200 extensions across 16 schools.

Unknown number of Trunks yet but Gamma have quoted £4 each for 3000mins per trunk.

This will save us close to £800 per month on existing system which is mixture of local PBX either SIP or Copper currently

How much is the hosted solution for 3cx ? I’d be interested in prices too !

- - - Updated - - -

I’d be interested as I’m looking too. We have 54 handsets across 4 sites.

Any one know what the costs for 3cx hosted as I don’t want to host onsite? And what are people roughly paying ?

Personally running FreePBX VM with no issues for the past 5-6 years. Works really well, paid for one or two commercial modules, but apart from that the cost of SIP trunks is all we pay. Yealink handsets across the board.

Rather than SIP trunks with pay X for number of trunks plus free minutes, we also pay for what is essentially unlimited in and out, no free minutes and just a cheap pay per call cost, of which we're on our providers "reseller" price tier.

So how much are your SIP trunks? Or are you saying you pay nothing except for the call costs

I use Andrews & Arnold for my SIP trunk I pay just over £1.20 a month for 1 x 03 number, calls are extra to give you a comparison for my setup at home. I ported number in from Vonage which cost me like any number to port in.

We have VoiceFlex trunks via our phone system supplier, we pay £8 per channel but this comes with unlimited local, mobile, national and calls to 70 countries

We have just gone live in the last couple of weeks with an on-premise FreePBX system which I spent a few months working on and was pretty easy to setup. We have bought some of the commercial modules for it but these are essentially one-off costs as we have paid for 5 years maintenence on these modules so we are not constantly paying for module updates. We are using reconditioned Yealink T48S handsets and have just 1 VSIP trunk which is essentially free and channels are unlimited so essentially all you pay for is the call package monthly at £50 which includes international calls and of course the DID numbers that I think were £2 each per month...

3 months before I took over as Network Manager, the school chose Teams and Gamma.

£7.30 per user and £9.99 per SIP (if documents are correct)

Already looking at moving to 3cx even though the school have just got 40 Yealink (utter crap!!) handsets

If you have teams, why are you using handsets?

We just let people call from their computers these days. We tried the Yealink but they are just cheap android devices so we ditched them entirely.
