EssentialRug Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Hi, This may be relevant to MATs- when starting out/supporting a new school, do any of you send out a questionnaire for staff to complete so they can let you know of their opinions on how they see the current IT provision, and what pitfalls if any they are experiencing. If anyone has any questions at all that I could consider that would be much appreciated. Thanks
Popular Post Oaktech Posted October 10, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 10, 2022 Apologies for sounding cynical here, but I've done this several times at 3 different establishments... And, well, basically the feedback is always the same... 1. We want iPads because oooh shiny 2. Everything is too slow 3. We want you take almost all the security away. 4. We don't know how to use most of what we've got, but we also don't want to attend any training. I'll get back in my box now. 12
paulkerton Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 1. We want iPads because oooh shiny 2. Everything is too slow 3. We want you take almost all the security away. 4. We don't know how to use most of what we've got, but we also don't want to attend any training. Can confirm I've seen all four feedbacks historically . Just trying to get some people to understand why they need a password let alone MFA is tough. However, you can easily dismiss a lot as a lack of education on the subject. 1
MatthewL Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Forget the surveys, go speak to teams in person at their team meetings, introduce yourself, I get far more honest responses by having a face to face chat. 2
steve Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Forget the surveys, go speak to teams in person at their team meetings, introduce yourself, I get far more honest responses by having a face to face chat. I found the department team meetings a good in-road. They might have shared issues and they don't like to say "daft" things in front of their colleagues. Face-to-face allows you to follow up on those suggestions like performance - where, when, is it something in particular? Can you help document the dates / times? 1
gaz350b Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 (edited) Aim to get baseline data on how they find the service don’t try and get try and get “I need x y z” type answers. Simple grid how do you rate the following with regards to the it provision. Issue resolution Quality of advice Promptness of answering phone Overall quality of issue handling Professionalism Helpfulness Ease of contacting IT Support Promptness of email response We base ours around the ofsted rating system. Feel free to leave a box for open comments. Sometimes people won’t raise their gripes with the system in person and other people won’t via digital methods. So hit it with face to face meetings too. And schedule it every year for summer. Use it as per of your Performance review. Edited October 10, 2022 by gaz350b 4
Sylv3r Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 We don't send questionnaires at the start of the process. I go in and introduce myself and the service provision during a staff meeting - I let staff know that we will audit their existing network and make changes where applicable - this will include things like slowness, security risks, software / hardware recommendations. I let all staff know that any discussions with their previous support providers can be ignored - and any niggles, concerns, requests that they have previously made and have not had a suitable response can be re-asked as sometimes we find that a different pair of eyes may result in a different answer and something that they were previously told wasn't possible may either not be true or changes in software / hardware may not make it achievable. After around 6 months, then we do survey staff asking for their feedback once we have had a chance to implement changes. 1
noelmm Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I've done this before and as others have said, the feedback you get isn't always helpful. What we have now done is setup a focus group, one teacher from each department to meet with each half-term so we can get constructive feedback and see how we can move forward. This focus group is also being used to train the rest of their departments on new technologies, this allows them to see see different sides of the technology that we as non-teachers may not see.
