Sonic007 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Hi all, Anyone had this situation? We use Google Drive and have an Office Shared drive. All accessed via Google Chrome. Our office team know that there is a file called "attendance" in a folder named 2022-2023. If they browse to the folder the file is not there. If they search Google Drive for the file directly, it then appears. You can then view details and see it is in that 2022-2023 folder. Once you click the folder, it then appears in there. This happens for many different files. Not just this one. It's like it isnt there but then is there. Anyone have any ideas whats happening? Thankyou. 1
thompsonc Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 We've seen this across our trust also. A Ctrl and F5 in chrome will display the files also which make me think it's something to do with the page caching. 2
Sonic007 Posted September 1, 2022 Author Posted September 1, 2022 (edited) Thankyou for your reply. That is good information to know. I might do a fresh install of Chrome and see if that helps. Edited September 1, 2022 by Sonic007
thompsonc Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 Let me know how you get on, that may be my next option also! 1
DavidYoung Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 We have seen this too on several accounts on multiple tenancies. Has anyone raised a case with Google support?

Ah - someone was asking me about this (I think) at lunch yesterday. It wasn't anything anyone else had noticed / reported, I'll see if I can get more details out of them and get them to try refreshing the page as you suggest.

Hi, We are also getting this issue with multiple users. Ctrl + F5 seems to be the only way to fix it. The Chrome browsers they are using are all fully updated. Not sure if this is a Google issue or caching (we use LGfL). I will hang fire on contacting anyone until I see a few more posts on this thread.
DavidYoung Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I've raised a support case with Google and sent them a screen recording. As it seems to be a wide-ranging issue, it would probably help if everyone affected could also raise a case. 1
dhicks Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Not sure if this is a Google issue or caching (we use LGfL). We are on a standard fibre-to-the-premises connection, no LGfL connection, and we're seeing the same problem, so I don't think it's an LGfL problem. We haven't had many reports of the problem, so either people aren't noticing or they've just got used to hitting Ctrl-F5 every now and then. 1

We have this across our trust too, not seen it personally but had a report from 1 person a week ago, today it seems to be more widespread. I reached out to google support earlier: Google Workspace Support, Sowmya: I just wanted to let you know that, this is the known issue, our internal team is currently working on it with the high priority to fix the issue. 5
1TF0rward Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Also having that issue across multiple schools. Nice to see that it's acknowledged. 1
talksr Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 A quick update to let you know, I have users reporting this at home also, so this cannot be an issue relating to firewalls or school specific computers. I have users who use their own laptops on Chrome, Firefox and IE () all reporting the same issue, so I am quite certain now that this is an issue at the Google end. 2
RLR Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I've read about this multiple times on slack and forums but not encountered anyone with it until today. We've got one user that is having this issue. Looks to have been going on since summer time.
DavidYoung Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 My case with Google is still open and I have tried to escalate it several times with little effect. I have generally found Google Support to be helpful but in this case they have confirmed it is a 'known issue' and their engineers are working on it. I've had the same message every time I have asked for the last month. The most affected user is one of our head teachers and it is happening to him several times a day causing much frustration and lost time. If it is a known issue, surely it should be listed on the Workspace Status Page but it apparently doesn't meet the criteria for this. Probably because if they listed it then their uptime SLAs would be decimated. 1
PrimaryNetMan Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Have started to get reports of this from a few users now.
Sonic007 Posted November 3, 2022 Author Posted November 3, 2022 It's been happening since August. Let's hope for a fix soon as so far nothing is being done.
fiza Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Just spent 45 minutes on the phone to Google Support as we had a folder in a shared drive with disappearing sub folders and files. I got onto a Google Meet and did a screen share with the rep and showed them the issue. First thing I was told was that this is a known issue which has been resolved and clearing browsing cache would fix it for me. It didnt!! Then I was asked to create a new folder and when the files/sub folders where showing to move them to the new folder. I did this on the screen share and all the files/sub folders disappeared, not in the old folder and not in the new!! I was then told that the user had deleted the files and sub folders but clearly they hadnt! Finished the call with no real resolution. Very frustrating!!! 1

Sounds like the Google rep you were talking to was trying to fob you off with half baked sollutions that in fact were not sollutions at all. It is still an issue and Google don't seem to care anbout fixing it at the moment it seems.
Oaktech Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 We've had this - it's almost certainly a cache thing because it never seems to happen for people using Chrome Drive Sync
