Stop printers getting listed

We have a print server but we don't list the printers in the directory. They are mapped during logon via a script.

When a user goes to printers and devices and clicks on "add a device" they can still see many printers listed there.

How do I stop printers getting listed in here? Am I missing a step here to stop the printers getting listed?

No tick in that box on any printers.

Is the printer people can see the shared printer from the server or is it the printerdirect?

Disable the protocols (most of them except RAW but definitely disable Bonjour and WSD) on the printer's admin webpages. This won't be a print server share issue I'm guessing, this will be Windows on the client PCs picking up the protocols.

The printers themselves will probably have a discovery protocol - whether that's Bonjour or similar. These can usually be turned off from the web interface, just leaving what you actually need (usually Raw port 9100 or LPR).

Yeah, this is because of the discovery protocols so the fixes above should work if you go to the IP addresses for the printers . We had this here and that fixed it, when people accidentally print direct it doesn't get logged on papercut either.

If those no longer appear when a printer is powered off, then it'll be a discovery protocol active on that printer. Printer shares with the "List in directory" option enabled are still offered up by a print server if the printer itself is offline, I believe.
