Having trouble configuring HP switch after reset - cannot access via Console Port

I have console cable connected between HP 2530-48 port switch and Windows 10 PC.

 

Console cable is COM type - but then I've a COM to USB adapter which is working (drivers installed) - COM3 is the given port number.

 

I change COM3 speed to 115200, Data Bits 8, Parity None, Stop bits 1 and flow control None.

 

Open Putty.

 

Change Session to SERIAL and enter COM3 - set speed to 115200

 

In connection I change Serial to COM3 and Flow Control to None.

 

When I open the Putty console and press Enter - nothing happens

 

What am I doing wrong?

 

I need to get this switch configured ASAP of course

Does the 2530 have a micro-USB port on the front of it? That can be used as a console port as well. That might be worth trying?

 

Stupid question: Some Aruba switches have an OOB network port on them, outside of the normal 48. You're not plugging your console cable into that, are you?

Console port is out of band ?? :-)

 

I do have a 2530 on my desk which I'm having issues connecting to the console port too, I used to be able to but now I cannot, lol. Same experience, as OP, blank screen and pressing keys do not bring up usual prompt. It is the HP (non Aruba branded) but has the Micro USB port. Connecting with Pluggable USB/Serial convertor.

 

Saying that I have another switch which I also was able to connect but now cannot.

Some Aruba/Procurve switches have an extra port on them that's not part of the 24/48 and isn't a console port. It's a management network port which you can plug into a management network and SSH to, even if none of the other ports aren't in use. I can't remember if the 2530 is one of those or not (The 2930M is, as is the 5400R Series), but the reason I asked is I've on more than one occasion got those ports mixed up.

 

Have you tried dialling down the speed of the serial port to 9600 baud? Have you tried another console cable? Could be the one you've got has developed a fault.

Not sure what happened, but left it a while then instead of pressing enter once to get in, I pressed twice quickly and I got the menu prompt.

 

Very odd, switch now configured and going in over lunch.

 

Do have a micro USB which I'll test tomorrow when I get more time....

On Aruba two/three enters seems to be standard, not sure why but we have always had that showing

I have HP/Aruba 2530 switches throughout. Just yesterday I was connecting to one using a console cable. I did not change the baud rate from the default 9600 and was able to connect fine.
