Shopping for air conditioners makes me feel better about the heat and humidity i search around till I find one in stock and look up reviews, work out if they will actually deliver it tomorrow morning or are just taking speculative orders,  then get into decision paralysis about split unit, single hose dual hose , airtightness, heating function and start the loop again.

Our floor-standing fan gave up today. All outlets within a reasonable driving distance are sold out of fans.

 

While I was in Sainsbury's, I was (randomly) advised by a customer that the only answer was air conditioning units – she has three at home, and she would not be without them. She went on:

 

"Of course, while they are running, you have to have a window open to poke the big hose through, but they are wonderful!"

With the hotter summers we've had lately, I'm honestly surprised that the heat pumps being subsidised by the government are just ones that replace your boiler, rather than trying to get proper two-way pumps installed so more homes have proper air conditioning (as opposed to the portable ones with the hose that aren't as effective or efficient) in the summer.

I would totally go for a 2-way heat pump if there was anywhere to fit it on the outside of the house.
