Morning all,

I've not been paying all that much attention to Windows 11 however in the past, Windows was released on the VLSC ages before the official release, and wondered if anyone has seen it on theirs yet? Do you think it is likely to appear in the next 24 hours or so or are they going to do something different with it?

It will be next Summer before I roll it out but would like to use it myself to get used to its quirks and play around with deployments in the Winter when we get quieter.

Thanks

The minimum specs are quite high - or at least require a fairly modern PC.

- Intel 8th Gen Coffee Lake or Zen 2 CPUs

- TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) support

- 4GB of RAM

- 64GB of storage

You can download the MS Health App which has a new 'Introducing Windows 11' section at the top. Click the Check Now button and it will first check if your PC meets the required standards before letting you download Windows 11.

The 6th Gen i7 in my workstation isn't up to the minimum 8th Gen so I can't officially install Windows 11 on this machine. :(

I have imported it into MDT and it identifies itself as windows 10, which made me giggle.

As I've been saying all along, its a branding exercise for a reskin of Windows 10, and to launch the features shamelessly plucked from Chrome OS.

oh, 100% yes. In fairness, I think 10 was more or less 8.1 with a new start menu.

I rolled 8 out and dealt with its "quirks" so when everyone moved to 10 I was well set as not much had changed. People were struggling because they were jumping from 7 to 10 but I just sat back and smugly rolled 10 out, knowing most of the gotcha bits.

I have the ISO of VLSC want to put it on a pen stick, i used to use a Powershell Script to write out the Win10/Server 2019 since the install.wim is over 4GB and the script setup the usb stick and split the WIM but it doesnt work with Windows 11 :-( anyone used any tools to do this yet?

I've always used the Rufus tool to make Bootable USB's, and before that the RMPrepUSB tool... not tried it with Win11, so don't know what it'll do to the WIM file...

If its a FAT32 USB, then the max file size is 4Gb usually.

Has anyone tried setting up Windows 11 on Hyper-V VM ? I've tried 2 different spec servers both won't let me install it as says doesnt meet requirements.

VM has secure boot enabled, 8GB ram, 12 Virtual Cores.

ML350 Gen 10 Server as Hyper-V host

What am i missing?

Have you enabled the TPM in the VM settings?

Just a heads up, but VLSC appears to be moving to Office 365 Admin portal. I just found the "new experience" under Billing >> Your Products and its pretty awesome!!

All downloads and keys available right in the admin portal.

I did wonder why they never updated the look of VLSC. Looks like its be superceeded.

Its not showing in our VLSC yet, did you have to request it or anything?

no requests, just showed for us (although I am looking in the new VLSC part in 365 and downloaded it from there).

I am fighting with the Volume Control allowing WiFi control at the moment, and if you disable the notifications display, it disables that part which means you cannot get to the option controls.

and found this from Microsoft about splitting the .WIM file and using a single USB stick for the install... https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/winpe--use-a-single-usb-key-for-winpe-and-a-wim-file---wim

yeah thats basically what i did split partitions..

We use FOG for deploying and i just made my first Win 11 image drops into audt mode just like Win10.. i didnt even need to ammend my sysprep answer file from windows 10!
