Copying Data To Google Shared Drive

Hello All

 

As per the title really. I have around 250GB of data to move from a local network share to a Google Shared Drive.

 

Does anyone know if Google offers a program to do this? I don't really just want to do a CTRL-A and select all and drag and drop incase anything gets missed etc or it fails due to the amount of data.

 

What do you lot use when you have found yourself moving data from a local server to a Google Shared Drive?

The last few times I've done this I've added that folder to the Google sync folders and let it do it's thing. Once you have seen them on the Cloud, remove the folder from the app settings and then delete the local copy (if that's the plan).

I literally do it that way in batches of 20GB, works fine.

Depends on the file sizes. The Google drive app (was drive file stream) works ok for large files (like videos etc) but not for lots of little files (word docs etc) as there is throttling and a certain amount of overhead per file.

 

Rclone works well for everything else. I just let it run in the background as it can take time.

Copy and paste. Left going over night and all was there in the morning.

I've done this a few times in the past and I've used GoodSync to copy the data over to shared drives in Google Drive. Comes with a nice UI and also verifies that all of the data in each file has been copied over successfully. You can also copy over time stamps etc.

 

If you have got a ton of folders it takes some time to create them but other then that I have no problems with it.

Also , I was a fan of Goodsync the past year and I admit , it is perfect for moving network share to a Google Drive . Also there are other options like Gs Richcopy360 and Syncback .

I don't recommend COPY & PAST or CLI tools for such a transfers .
