BroganOs Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 Our Hikvision DVR is bricked and need replacing. We have 16 analogue and 2 ip cameras because that’s the max the old one could handle. I was just going to replace it with a hikvision hybrid nvr that I can phase out the analogue cameras over time. But the Headmaster would like something with an easier GUI. I completely understand why, the iVms tool is a bit full on for a non-tech user. Also we’ve a ubiquiti nvr at another site and the staff there love it. Has anyone any recommendations they can offer while I research something new? Thanks.
jmak Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 The other thing to bear in mind is that you can't buy the Hikvision cameras direct anymore. They have a consumer range, but the decent ones lots of people here used to buy can only be bought through approved installers.

Arthur Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 (edited) Due to previous poor experiences with NVRs I am using Luxriot EVO S with approx. 64 x 8MP (4K) Hikvision cameras (both purchased through Use-IP). The footage is stored on a Synology NAS with 8 x 12TB HDDs. Luxriot also supports H.264 IP encoders for analogue cameras which is what we used for a short period while we upgraded our CCTV system. We did also try Synology Surveillance Station, but the performance wasn't great and end-users found that the vertical playback timeline wasn't particular intuitive. Edited February 15, 2021 by Arthur

Chris_Cook Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 We get our Hik cameras from broadband buyer. We have an account setup with them. We use a selection of Hikvision NVRs, dvrs, and some unbranded DVRs. All this is hooked up to Milestone xprotect. 1 school has a licence, but the other uses the free one which only supports 8 devices. Luckily a 32 channel DVR/NVR only counts as 1 device, so you can get a quite a lot of cameras on there.

It's the same UI but removes the bits you'll probably never use (Access Control, Attendance etc...) I haven't, but I suspect if it looks simular to the non-lite UI, I think it'll get the thumbs down from staff. We're a boarding school, so night supervisors often use the dvr itself to check footage and they REALLY hate it.

If I could phase the upgrade I'd seriously consider it.
Simcfc73 Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 I've just pulled out an old fasttrace system and put in an eBay hikvision DVR with me hard drives...I needed the coax connections did went for an older model I really wanted to add our internal cameras too but they are very old axis cameras (some 206s) and won't play nice. They are running on icatcher which I've had for 10 years but I'm not sure if it's still being developed. Just got a coax to IP conveyors too which work really well and mean I don't have to run new network cable. Sorry.. Hijacking the thread a bit.

The desktop app called smartpss is easy it use as well , we just import our config.xml when deploying the software to pc,s and it adds all the cameras etc

I put one up today.. I intended to remove the old cameras altogether but ended up just removing the old camera and jamming the new one in the housing... the coax receiver just about fits in.

I cannot get it to run without it asking for credentials of an admin of the local PC.
