This is going to annoy a lot of teachers who use flash based websites that haven't been updated in years!

It will be the end of the world for our science teachers when boardworks stops working, i did suggest doddle science as a replacement but since that i also found out it still has some flash content.

One of the biggest challenges is gonna be PhET, which apparently is a charity and community based collection of resources and thus don't necessarily have the capacity to update everything, albeit they have moved a lot to HTML5.

Been telling anyone who will listen for the past 18 months that the end is nigh. Can't wait for the accusations that it's my fault that they can't use *insert random ESSENTIAL FOR MY TEACHING flash site here* and that I am blocking teaching.

Bye Flash! Thanks for the fun times, pre-2010. No thanks for the updates upon updates, vulnerability and enabling staff to never update their schemes of work.

I never enabled it when I rolled out Chromium Edge so most users at ours are used to it not working. A couple were using IE to get to the content still.

The removal tool's available here and will be published in WSUS early 2021.

This doesn't remove the NPAPI version, only the version built in version in the OS.

It'll be interesting to see if Microsoft bundle this with a cumulative update (would be handy).

Adobe have published guidance notes here It's years old, but should still apply.

Running this command should do the trick -

\\server\share\uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall

Flash.png

I can confirm it removes both versions. The next task is to see what applications it breaks before mass deploying!

According to our ICT department one of their taught modules still uses Flash animation and they required Flash Studio MX to be installed recently 🙈🙈🙈

If only there was some way they could have known!!!!!!

when they say 'taught modules' -is there an exam board board that insists on this

Not a problem. You can still have Flash Studio/Suite/Creator installed. Just not the player.

May make seeing what they’ve authored rather tricky, though I think it can author as a self contained exe(?) which should still work.

Still not very goo forward thinking teaching

my thought were always that I should be teaching the kids to pass the exams - AND have useful skills and knowledge for the real world

teaching them to make flash based systems is not really looking at what will help the kids in the future

or maybe I am just too idealistic and should be more cynical???

Here's the script I use to remove all versions of Flash -

\\server\share\Flash\uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall

wusa \\server\share\Flash\windows10.0-kb4577586-x64.msu /quiet /norestart

Some applications (such as older versions of ActivInspire) complain about the absence of Flash, but other than that, nothing to report.
