Hi,

Any help appreciated.

since the SIMS Autumn upgrade we are unable to run sims.net on our main sims server which runs sqlserver 2016 and server 2016 despite deploying , redeploying , reinstalling agent etc.. The main clients on staff laptops and desktops run it OK but we need to have it working on the server for a 3rd party app which runs.

The error in the event logs is as follows:-

Faulting application name: Pulsar.exe, version: 7.196.7.0, time stamp: 0x5f7c13e5

Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.14393.3986, time stamp: 0x5f77edfa

Exception code: 0xe0434352

Fault offset: 0x000dc562

Faulting process id: 0x99b0

Faulting application start time: 0x01d6d21dffbfb89c

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\Pulsar.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\System32\KERNELBASE.dll

Report Id: fb2d5bad-d5c9-4b53-ba31-5a6e8dda7cf7

Faulting package full name:

Any ideas please let me know

Cheers

Upgrading SIMS always requires a reboot on the server itself*, as any major upgrade fails to run the main SIMS application and also breaks our other hook-ins like MISSync, ZiNet and Wonde etc. They won't work until after a reboot.

Hate to be that guy, but have you tried turning it off and on again?

*In my experience, when you want to run SIMS.net on the actual server.

Many Thanks - it's rare we use SIMS.net on the main server but this cropped up due to us investigating a different issue.

I will reboot the server this evening and give it a go

If you have 3rd party software hooking into SIMS on the server, the installation of SIMS on the server may not have completed properly. It is best to turn off the 3rd party services, install SIMS and then restart the 3rd party services.

i had an issue once on our server that required deleting the administration profile and recreating otherwise nothing worked.

ensure you have a backup admin profile first just in case

a good test would be to create a new account on the server and try launching sims under the new account just to rule out corrupt profile

I have never had to reboot the sims server after an upgrade maybe i should (would not hurt i suppose) fresh start

Thanks for all the replies - I rebooted the server last night ( there was also quite a few pending windows updates) and it worked after this.

Had similar after I failed to stop various services that link into SIMS, groupcall, parentpay, etc etc, seemed to kill the SIMS workstation on the server, renamed the SIMS.net folder, then reinstalled via update and sorted it.
