There have been plenty of contenders but I think Motorhead bomber tour in ?1980 at Derby Assembly Rooms for me. Even standing at the back was organ rattlingly loud. Possibly why I have tinnitus today.. 1

ICTDirect_Dave Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Motorhead in the tent at Donington left my ears in their biggest ever post gig state of disarray! They were SO very loud! The biggest full-spectrum assault I've experienced was Tool. The bottom-end was so powerully intense that I reckon you could've walked on it if you tried hard enough! Honourable mention to Mogwai too. Swirling vortices of intricate static and downbeat drums with no vocal mics keeping the backline levels down. Second honourable mention to my university band. During one rehearsal in the music department rehearsal studios, the noise levels in the corridor outside the soundproofed room were recorded at 140db!! The site staff politely asked that we turn things down a touch... 2

foofighterjim Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 I would have to go with Soundgarden, particularly their final song in the setlist Slaves & Bulldozers. Chris Cornell hitting those impossibly high notes, with Ben Shepherd's bass pummelling your innards at the low end and that extended outro I have never left a gig feeling such pain and happiness is equal measure (and unfortunately I probably never will again, RIP Chris). Honourable mentions go to AC/DC and Deftones for sheer volume. 2

Andycat Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 As someone who does a lot of gigs, but also attends a lot, by far the most inappropriate was Dream Theater in the ridiculously undersized King Georges Hall in Blackburn, 2007.
sister_annex Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 I once saw the remnants of Thin Lizzy a the Wolverhampton Civic Hall - my ears rang for days after - partly due to an awful guitar mix that was just way too loud and I think the aging rockers on stage were sttruggling with foldbacks so had just turned everyhting up on stage. I also saw the Prodigy at the NIA (when it was the NIA) managed to squeeze myslef past the mosh pit to the front. The subs at the front were unreal, proper soul pounding stuff as you would imagine from a DnB group On the flipside, saw Florence and the Machine at the Civic and even with a full band and quality PA could hardly hear them - was almost like the noise police were in that night making sure everything was well below limits
DalekSec Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 First band I saw live Motorhead, worlds loudest. They had a trick of turning down their amps so the house had to turn the up, then halfway through their set they would turn their amps up to max. They were banned from several venues!

Glad the local radio station recorded the gig as I could'nt make out any of the song! Manowar Sign Of The Hammer Tour Front row wasn't such a good idea... They put them in Academy 2 (the small one) it was rammed and when you have a large choir + band it really filled the room with sound. Lots and lots of sound! I also saw Motorhead at the Rock And Blues Custom Show in 2000, an amazing gig and glad it was an open air event! 1

admars Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 (edited) Not sure who loudest I've seen was, Slayer or Melvins maybe? I guess they're heaviest. Mogwai I had to leave part way through their set, as it was a small venue, and all the bass was making my insides feel funny! I was right down the front to start off with, and slowly moved further back, until I gave up so that would be the other heaviest. Edited November 27, 2020 by admars 1

Probably the loudest band i have seen live would have been slipknot, seeing them 2x within the space of a month and being right at the front of the crowd both times probably added to the volume, and my ear drum damage Edited November 27, 2020 by Mewdewgooboofoo
