Will they need a seperate server and SQL database or can this run on our current Sims Server without messing about with the databases? I'm tempted to go with the hosted option to avoid any issues. Although I believe PS financials isn't truly a cloud system and still needs clients. Hosted with PSF is quite expensive, but then the whole system is expensive. Support seem to be better geared up to hosted too. We do run it locally on the same server as SIMS without any problem. It comes in 2 halves, the 'portal' a web based interface allowing budget holders to raise requisitions, check budgets, etc and then client software that finance staff use (this is run via an RDS server if hosted). The software overall I would rate as poor. It's unintuitive, and support dial in to fix something most days, still 3 years after initial installation. When you buy it, check what version you get. We were given v4, despite v6 being available. We can then have v6, but at an additional cost (everything seems to be an additional cost, like having to pay for a licence for the software that's used mainly so that support can fix things). Likewise find out which web interface. MyPortal is just dire. PSOnline (PS purchasing) is better but only in like having your hand chopped off is better than having your whole arm. Meldrew 2

They even wanted to charge us 50% of the cost for an archive license so we could still access our OWN data after we moved away. Currently using HCSS and admin, finance and myself love it. Pete 1

If we do go for it I think it will have to be the hosted option as we are currently using SQL Express and this needs the ful package plus I dont want it messing up my Sims server.
simpsonj Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Go for the hosted version, and try not to get any more involvement with it would be my advice! It's one of the most convoluted pieces of software I've ever had to deal with. Creating accounts is a myriad of permissions, levels and access rights that only stayed in my head briefly during the training, and then left again 10 minutes after. Not a system that is intuitive in anyway, shape or form. 2
paulkerton Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Have you considered moving your MIS from SIMS as well as moving from FMS? PS Financials isn't really cloud software, as it's hosting it's databases in the cloud, but still requires desktop clients to function. You may as well consider moving both at the same time. Bromcom offer MIS and Financial software, for example.

Both HCSS and Bromcoms solution are pure cloud and quite good I think (from a technical admins point of view anyway). 1

I will post here on how the migration goes over the next few months. The Bromcom solution from what I could see is the only fully cloud product, the other two are both RDP sessions to a hosted solution (correct me if im wrong ) Our preferred MIS wasn't Bromcom so we ruled out using there finance package also. 2

Unfortunately our outgoing bursar signed us up for a 3 or 4 year contract without actually doing any testing. The ordering element seems to be OK - browser based, but we gave up I think on the HR side of it which required JAVA installation and VPN - which had to be installed by the end-user!! Support was dreadful. 1
