jthompson Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Google are reworking G Suite as Google Workspace - https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2020/10/introducing-google-workspace.html It's not clear to me whether this is going to materially change G Suite for Education, beyond just new branding and some new features in line with everything else. We are also bringing Google Workspace to our education and nonprofit customers in the coming months. Education customers can continue to access our tools via G Suite for Education, including Classroom, Assignments, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet.

I understand the need to change things up eveynow and then, espcially when there is a tangible benefit, but this just seems a bit silly. Primus Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 I've only just got used to it being G Suite - loads of people look blankly when you say G Suite and you have to say Google Apps, this is uneccesary confusion. I know @jamesleonard has moved on but maybe he can see this and feedback - this is nuts!

I'm a stickler for things not referring to old names, so I'm now going to have to go through and change it all over again. Oh god, and all the user guides, references to it on the website, intranet, etc. Urgh!!

Repeatedly changing the name of a key product is ridiculous - it's not been G Suite for very long so we're talking about 3 different names in a short period of time. Pick a name and stick with it. No one is arguing against necessary change but this is change for the sake of it.

Microsoft 365 for Education, that used to be Microsoft Office 365 for Education which was Microsoft Live@Edu Microsoft Teams, that used to be Skype for Business that used to be Lync, that used to be Office Communicator, that used to be NetMeeting FutureSplash Animator became Macromedia Flash became Adobe Flash became Adobe Animate Rebrands happen all the time and continually. Google Apps didn't reflect it well, and neither did G Suite, which always felt ugly to me. Google Workspace reflects the product much better, even though it now necessitates a job title change for me

It certainly does nothing for the image of Google as a company that abandons products and ideas far too quickly if they cant even settle on a brand for more than a few years. The mobile phone companies you listed are a different kettle of fish as they were the result of mergers and acquisitions. Not saying Google are alone in this regard (or that G Suite was a good name) but how often has Office changed its name? What about Windows? What about AWS? What about VEEAM? Not the products within Anyway I have made my point and I think most people on here would agree that G Suite was a naff name but the frequent changes are annoying none the less. I don't see any point in going around in circles on this minor issue 1
