I was having a conversation with a teacher today, we got onto the subject of money. This is what happened:

Me: so how has the credit crunch affected you?

Teacher: It hasn’t I have weetabix for breakfast

Me: Oh **Walks off**

Are these people for real?

next time you see him tell him he's humourless smart-arsed jerk. And then walk off....

I don't see the problem.

Are you offended by the bad joke or that they are unaffected by the 'credit-crunch'?

a bit of both really, more for the bad joke but i'd take offense if he was unaffected by the credit crunch as a home-ownin', guardian-reading, flipflop-wearing, pc left-of-centre, recycling, grammar-school educated muppet.

which i'm sure he is.

maybe i've had a sense of humour bypass, but i fail to see the wit and humour in his little joke....the image someone mocked up of the 'credit crunch' was quite witty....but his 'i eat weetabix' response was neither of those things.

Why is that?

Weetabix is probably the one cereal that's not crunchy (once you put the milk on) that's why I think his response was quite funny.

Mike.

Maybe i'll snap out of it by mid-afternoon ;)

Why is that?

i don't know, i just don't like the smugness about some of these liberal middle-class boho's.....but then i'm making a huge assumption about this guy.

After all, it's only a lame bit of wit from this teacher whoever he is, he may or may not be all those things....and i don't mind people making light of something that is talked about incessantly in the media, but i just didn't think it was funny or witty. if he'd said it to me i'd have given him a slow handclap rather than a chuckle.

I thought you knew me then

Then realised you said home-owning, which I don't and I don't have debt (after having spent 3 years paying it all off) so the credit-crunch only spells good things for me.

Those who have borrowed at stupid levels deserve to be brought down to earth. I can't wait for the 30% houseprice crash - I might be able to afford a 2up-2down in this area then.

I love flip-flops!

The thing that got me was that they were serious they wasn’t joking. Im not bothered by it or anything just thought it was funny

I can't see how you thought they were being serious. It's not screamingly funny but I can't see that it was intended as anything other than a bit of a pun. A response like "I'm not affected by the credit crunch because my dad's a millionaire" would probably be intended to be offensive but not this.

I'd guess I'm missing something - perhaps the person concerned is a "bad guy" and there's more to it than this pointless joke.
