thebatman Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Hello all, We are in the process of updating out PoE switches to HPE/Aruba 2540s. So far everything has been good apart from our InVentry Quick Scans (Zebra mk500) that will not power up. After raising a ticket with InVentry support there only answer was to use a PoE injectors. Has anyone ells have this issue with the switches and anybody know of a way to get them to work with the Quick Scans?

From memory nosing around the technical specs of the kit they are using, we can to the realisation that despite our switches being PoE+, they did not meet the specific requirements of the kit that InVentry were suppling. We now have to put up with the TP Link PoE injectors hanging on taught wires at a jaunty angle in my otherwise perfect(*) comms cabinets. *not event slight perfect. 1

john Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 I may have mis-read something, the spec of that Zebra item claims its 802.3af PoE support (https://www.zebra.com/gb/en/products/interactive-kiosks/mk500-micro-kiosk.html): Power DC power: 24V, 625mA PoE: Power-over-Ethernet 802.3af Yet 802.3af spec https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_over_Ethernet#Standard_implementation max current: 350mA so would think the switches are going you are 802.3af you are allowed 350mA and if its pulling more / not asking right it will drop it where as a cheapo PoE adapter will probably not care anything like a switch and thus work as it probably doesn't need that full power but the switch will be being cautious I would guess? 1

True, I would still expect it depends on whats its asking / demanding from the switch, advanced diagnostics / debug settings on the switch will probably reveal a little more if enabled I'd expect.

minimoo Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 We've got a mix of 2530/2540 switches - and inventry (albeit bought 18-24 months ago) quickscans. No issues with the HP POE here.

Are you using the Quickscan Zebra mk500? Did you need to change any settings on the switch? As is, out the box, our 2540s will not power our Quickscans but will power our phones and APs.

As is, out the box, our 2540s will not power our Quickscans but will power our phones and APs. We have two quick scans connected to two different HP 5412zl switches on POE+ modules. The quick scans would not power on for love or money so we had to use POE injectors on them which was a PITA really as all over POE kit, wireless, phones and CCTV works fine.

I've just checked on the switch and it is sat at 3.5 watts at a reported 54.8v Nothing set on the port out of the ordinary. It was supplied with a PoE adapter but we just chucked it in our switch and off it went I think. 1

For that port it is set to: Type=100/1000T Config Type=Auto Mode=100FDx Flow Control=Disabled PoE=Enabled Pre-standard Detect=On LLDP DOT3 TLV (PoE+)=Enabled LLDP MED TLV (PoE)=Enabled Power Priority=Low Power Allocation By=Usage Enable PoE=Enabled
minimoo Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 so just auto - i've spent a the week with a POE device that doesn't work if the switch was set to "Auto-1000" - but with "Auto" comes up fine. In any case, i've definitely got the MK500's working over POE from the switch here. Pretty sure we've not used any injectors!!
