Visually impaired help - mirroring teachers laptop screen

We are looking to get something that will show what is on the teachers laptop (connected to a screen) on a students iPad or laptop

 

I thought Airserver was it but now I am being told that is for the other way around - showing what is on the iPad on the big screen which is the wrong way. But some are saying it will work the way I want.

We use Teams to do exactly this. Seems to be working well.

 

We couldn’t use many of the other tools as the teacher PC and student iPad are on separate ranges that aren’t routed together.

we use tight VNC on the teachers laptop https://www.tightvnc.com/

and VNC viewer app on the ipad

set a static IP on the teachers laptop so it remains the same, and dont forget to connect as view only

That would mean setting all the teachers laptops, and supply laptops, to static IP as you never know who is teaching a child or what classroom they might be in.

Interested to hear about TightVNC - i've used it in a previous school but it was a bit flaky then

I would have thought quite a lot of schools would need something like this?

just quickly open DHCP and reserve there existing IP then, will be quicker...as long as the IP remains the same the App on the ipad will remember it then, honestly its a breeze once its setup...

What about security - I thought TightVNC was a bit insecure???

Why set a Static IP when you can just type the computer name?

You can set tight VNC to only connect with a password and also specify the IP range of allowed connections.

We currently use Skype for Business but moving to Teams hopefully soon. It also encourages them to use Teams for other things.

@3s-gtech would you mind telling me how this works? We have Teams but I have never used it and having had a look, I cant see how it works.

@witch I'm guessing they just have the student sign in to teams on the ipad and the teacher on the laptop and do a screenshare in teams you can do it via meet now and invite the student in and then screenshare and they will see it exactly as the teacher but on the laptop.

Staff member signs into Teams (the full app ideally, rather than the web based version), adds particular student into a Team from there. The student signs in on the iPad (free Teams app from the App Store) and is in the Team. The student needs to have the correct permissions from the O365 Teams control panel (defaults are usually fine but I had to change the student's conferencing settings back to ON in our tenancy). The teacher then shares their screen with the Team, and it'll just show on the iPad. I also tested it on a iPhone with the same results.

I've just tried it here at home - logged on as my non-admin user and got mrwITch to log on as a child. He had to download the app - I didnt (not sure if I had done it before or how to tell)

For ages it just kept tellng me he was unavailable and then suddenly it worked - not sure why.

I will have a go at school - can you tell me where the conferencing settings are in case I need to change them

I’ve used UltraVNC in a similar situation which seemed to work OK. Did require fixed IPs though.
