sippo Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I know its quite a personal question but just wanted to know the average pay for a school network manager is. I am currently on a poor wage for a manager. I have completely turned the school around over the last two years. Moved from away from viglen to a new complete vanilla AD network, migrated the admin and curriculum network, installed and configured new switches (approx 15 of them), installed a new exchange server after complaints about the county provided service, but most of all the general network is so much easier and manageable to run. Staff have told me that they really appreciate all the work I have done but since I have asked for a pay review, attitudes have changed. I have told them I want to stay but if I don't get what I deserve I'll be off. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

The school has 500 pcs, each teacher (approx 100) has a laptop, 50 pupil laptops all with wireless access, 30 - 40 cisco and HP switches- basically all modern stuff after our network overhaul last year. I've been in the job two years, and when I first started there wasn't even any anti-virus in place!! My responsibilites are to manager a colleague, and the whole school network. I feel I am getting a bad deal here...

If they then leave, and job re-advertised, its usually at slighty higher grade as truth starts to sink into SMT. When no-one applies, and SMT start really understanding the situation, job is re-advertised again at pay scale original incumbant asked for! Happened to me - happened to many others Its the way of life in school IT. Don't agonise over it - you just have 2 choices to make regards Simon

Not that they've advertised the position yet, because that would be too sensible!

After the JE process I was actually given a pay rise to 27k but my pposition went to being Assistant Network Manager. I said well if I'm the assistant who is the Network Manager, so I am appaealing for the full title and that will put me on the top of grade 9.

ChrisN-0123 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 £23k (SO1) - Network Manager in Kings Lynn, Norfolk here. 650 computers inc 100 laptops. 14 servers. Line manager to 2 technicians. Full time. All I can say is get some proof that other schools are paying more for the same title. Say where the schools are, computer count and hours. 23k is still low here but we have not had that MRS county council pay review yet. When thats done I hope to be on at least 27k. -Chris

dezt Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Ouch that's an insult if they're still doing a network managers job Thats the sort i'm on, 19k and we've just taken on a trainee, so I will line manage 2 staff, we have 200 PC's with 63 more coming in the holidays, abot 50 - 60 Laptops, and when I asked if I was going to see any more money as taking on a trainee means my workload goes up by training him, I was told no.

kestrel1 Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 £18.5k 300 + workstations, 80 laptops, 8 servers, 90 staff, 1000 kids. I do the whole lot, as I have been told there is no money for any help. I had a helper for 1.5 hours a day, she was non technical, couldn't even turn on a machine. I was expected to train her, that was a joke as she wasn't interested. Anyway, she has left now, so no help again. More machines expected, as the sixth form has been extended. So do you think I deserve more or not?
