We are with reading cloud at the minute, but on about changing. The software would have to work on a MacBook and iPad and be able to check out books on both systems. Easily and use a Bluetooth scanner to scan books barcode. Thanks Nathan

(I suspect it was a fairly basic coding error, but it took less time to resolve than it used to to get through to MicroLibrarian).

mikeprice Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 At my last school we just ended up with a system that ran on the PC in the library - no cloudy or anything Based on what the school needed and what would get used total cost was about £3-400 fixed - nothing else - no annual subscription Very simple system - worked very well for what was needed requirements were based on discussions with the Head and an honest appraisal of whether or not parents would access the parents section of the web system worked out well OK - when I say well - I mean that when I left if had been running for over 2 years - number of books taken out after the initial tests and a quick trial ZERO teachers couldn't be bothered to actually use it in spite of loads of money being thrown at getting new books and the computer for the system - all from a grant so - what I am saying - is that although they spent £300 (ish) on the library system - they saved a lot on not being committed to a cloud system that they would not have used and they can still start using it again - assuming that they still have the books and someone reads my notes on how to update the class lists (which any system will need anyway)

Hoping it's closer to £350, or I need to have words. Migrations were free, but IIRC they did say that they may start charging in the future. Again, nothing like the faff and ridiculous downtime going from JL on premises to hosted.

mikeprice Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 The system I used to use had a databse that could be attached to Access - I ended up with a query that could be run against a spreadsheet extracted from SIMS used to do that about once every half term it identified missing pupils and added the data to the library database no idea how I did it - but I was very pleased with myself when I got it working!! OK - still no automatic - but reasonably close same system was set up for adding new Year 1 kids in September and deleting the Year 6s when they left But, of course, there is the problem that you are dependant on SIMS being updated before you can transfer that data over so if it hasn't been done yet - or is done wrong - then it will clearly be your fault that the library database is wrong - and clearly NOT the fault of the people who updated SIMS - or for that matter gave the wrong information to the people who updated SIMS
