What’s new for IT pros in Windows 10, version 1909

Windows 10, version 1909 is now available through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Windows Update for Business, and can be downloaded from Visual Studio Subscriptions, the Software Download Center (via the Media Creation Tool), and the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC).

 

We recommend IT administrators begin targeted deployments of Windows 10, version 1909 to validate that the apps, devices, and infrastructure used by their organizations work as expected with the new features. As recently announced in blogs by John Cable and John Wilcox, Windows 10, version 1909 can be delivered in a new, streamlined fashion to devices currently running Windows 10, version 1903. For details on this new delivery approach, read John Wilcox’s blog post on Windows 10, version 1909 delivery options. The update process will be the same as previous feature updates for devices running Windows 10, version 1809 and older—or if you choose to deploy Windows 10, version 1909 from media.

 

Today marks the start of the servicing timeline for this Semi-Annual Channel release. By updating to Windows 10, version 1909, devices running the Enterprise and EDU editions will receive 30 months of support. (Devices running the Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations, Pro Education, and IoT Core will receive the standard 18 months of support.) For more details, see the Windows lifecycle fact sheet.

Noticed that OSDSUS v19.11.12 (https://www.powershellgallery.com/packages/OSDSUS/19.11.12.0) used with WIMWitch has been updated to support 1909 too.

 

Update:

Noted that WIM Witch (1.2.2) doesn't include 1909... contemplating editing ps-script (perhaps changing all references to 1903, to 1909? or just wait for official update).

If you installed 1903, minor update to 1909, and then 30 months, you'd have 3 years.

 

I just update every 6 months, easier to fix a few minor issues twice a year than all of them every 3 years.

 

Updated 1 IT room, 5 min reboots.

Does anyone know if there is an updated MDT for 1909? 8456 is currently listed as the latest version, I know the adk from 1903 works with 1909 but nothing is stated about MDT.

A Windows ADK for Windows 10, version 1909 will not be released. You can use the Windows ADK for Windows 10, version 1903 to deploy Windows 10, version 1909.

I'm in the middle of a 1809 rollout 230 to go! I'm using SCCM SUP and the update has not expired. The comment where 1909 has caused a headache sounds like the group policy settings aren't correct.

When I say image...... what i meant to say was removed all the bloat/apps and added my customisations such as logos etc to the .wim file

Could just install the feature upgrade, takes about 35mins while rebooting on ssd

 

1809 is supported for 18 more months, so could skip if you don't want the new features

Is this available through SCCM SUP? I have enabled Upgrades in my SUP and done another sync, but that KB isn't appearing when I search for it in all available updates.
