Flippin 'eck .... That *Was* my old fella's funeral.

 

We followed the carriage from the undertakers and stopped at teh start of the road where the church. We met up with the jazz band here and got out to walk behind it for about 300 yards ...

 

'When The Saints' was playing as we carried him in and ad we carried him out, and they joined us in the Parish Social Centre next to the church for the knees-up afterwards.

 

They had never played together, had had a drink or two (a touch of the mountain dew courtesy of the old fella) before they met the carriage and a good time was had by all. In fact it was a fantastic funeral that was only missing one person ... a crotchety, old bloke moaning that he should be give the sax as he could do far better ...

 

As far as funerals go that sounds great, glad it's actually do-able. She's said it for years so it looks like that's the plan for when it does happen

We were lucky in that we had a contact from the local folk / jazz music scene (courtesy of Tony Davis formerly of The Spinners, who has his own Jazz Band) and it was put together in quiet good time.

 

Funerals can be fun things ... full of life and joy.

 

Stragnely enough the old fella did not want any of us at the grave side, just the priest and an Irish piper. One of my brothers waited at the gates for the priest and piper to return, and then followed back to join in the party.

 

He was buried with an RAF Beret, a Union Flag, and a hip flask full of the good stuff brought over from the emerald isle by a cousin. A patriotic Dubliner who was proud to have served for Queen and Country in his youth.

 

I think I might have a poetry reading ... Vogon poetry perhaps.

Ive seen these type of threads come up a few times on various forums and people all tend to have the same few humourous suggestions. If any of you actually request those, fair play but I suspect the majority wont

 

Every sad song I know has been used too much and I wouldnt want to have some generic funeral so unless I come across a really personal song before I die Ill just suggest some drum and bass to be played...only because I doubt many people have done that
