Backup software recommendation

Hi All,

Loyal Veeam user for about 8 years and love it but got a licencing problem and finding it a pain to get fixed (something about licence administrators?) so wonder what other backup software you recommend (good change it will work out but good time to check alternatives). Looking for an easy solution which just works and not quite ready to go full cloud yet.

Doesn't help you but I've not come across anything that bests Veeam yet.

Thought that may be the case. Just feeling delicate at the moment and if I call them and they say "but you are not the administrator so you can not log a call" I'm going to lose it.

We use altaro, have done for years and never had any issues.

I'd recommend Altaro as well. We've also used for years and never had any major problems and when there is an issue their support is usually on it in minutes.

As long as Veeam have a record of you, they generally will change the license administrator. They've done it twice for me now.

 

 

Back to the original question, as a backup product I actually found Arcserve UDP to be better than Veeam. I miss using that.

If you are trying to backup VMs on a Hyper Visor then I don't think there is any better than Veeam. There may well be cheaper but none better in my opinion.

 

I upgraded previous employment from 6.1 to 9.5 in the time I was there and had experience with restoring AD accounts the old fashioned way of a Virtual lab with the VM isolated.

 

Are there any other backup solutions that allow you to test your backups in the same way as Veeam i.e. spin up the VM and test by pinging, smtp, etc?

IMHO Veeam is the best. Not had any issues with it since I installed it years ago.

 

I would look to get the issue fixed rather than jumping ship.

 

Do you have a current support contract? I've found Veeam support to be fast and efficient the few times I've used them.

Veeam 100%

 

I have used it on VMWare and now Hyper-V. Can’t fault it!

 

Also used the free version on two standalone workstations we have.

Veeam is the only backup software worth it - I can not stress enough however that it is vital you have tested/offsite backups - Be it tape backup (and actually removed each week from the autoloader...) or by using a veeam cloud connect provider (Who can restore files even if someone hacks your backupserver and wipes the remote repro)
