Is there a way to bypass a WIndows login?

My friend who works at a Motorola campus here in Il recently gave me a laptop from the company as they were giving many away asking employees if they wanted to keep a few before scraping them altogether(they were upgrading their hardware). The one my friend kept wasn't his workstation, he had the password and gave it to me since I'd been buggin about a laptop. However, being the dumbass/burnout I am, I lost it/misplaced it, prolly folded it up & broke up some chronic on it and tosssed it afterwards, I don't know, but this laptop he gave me has a Windows XP log on that I obviously don't know the password to.

 

So how can I get passed this?

BTW, ...this other forum I posted the same question at had locked the topic saying I was asking for illegal hacks/crackware etc. They prolly took it like that cause of how i titled it "how to crack Windows logon?" I was thinking about reinstalling windows, but the only copy(if u can call it that) of Windows XP I have on CD is on the 3 disc System Recovery cds, but the disc are only for my desktop Sony VAIO.

 

So if what I am asking for in effect is something illegal, then nevermind (or PM the info http://www.systemwars.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif).

The software you are asking for are simply tools. Its how and why you use them that determines if your doing something illegal or not. Anyway, with the sermon out the way...

That's the one I decided to go with since it's the most suggested tool, only thing is I can't see the ISO file. Might I be doing something wrong? I'm extracting using WinRAR, if that may help.

ophcrack is great. Boot from the CD and have all passwords in minutes.

 

couldnt get it to work on a RAID system though where it found multiple partitions

I've tried Oph, ERD and number of other boot bypassers, but all of em get hung up on the blackscreen after choosing boot from CD. http://www.systemwars.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif

 

 

Apart from that, I've tried Safe Mode. Only thing is that when I do that, there is no Administrator account as you would see in this log in,

The login on the laptop is more like this,

So I have no Admin login option to click, but I do erase the default user name and type in Administrator and leave password blank, but it says the password doesn't match. Normally there really wouldnt be a password right, but I'm guessing Motorola or whoever put a pass on Admin, and that haults me from doing the Safe Mode bypass.

 

I figured I got the hook up with a old(IBM Thinkpad) but free laptop and use it to my advantage. Oh well. The idea of having a legit(so to speak) free laptop was nice, but maybe this is to much trouble to go through. Holla back if you can.

To make your locked machine prompt you with a logon box you simply need to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice when you are presented with the user switcher screen (the first of the two pics in your post). Once you have done this you should be able to enter administrator as the username and try a blank password.

 

The fact that the administrator account is not listed on the choose user screen is normal behavior as it is hidden by default on that screen unless there are no other user accounts.

 

As to reseting it I would also recommend the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor which is also included in the UBCD that should allow you to boot from it.

i think you might of tried this already but just incase you aint...

if the pc is on a network - on the second pic when you typed in administrator & left the password blank, try change "log on to" to the local computer and not the network - if it is attached to one.

I'm still worried about the missiles

- Put it in safe mode

- when you get to the picture log-in

- press Ctrl+Alt+Delete (press delete key twice)

- That will bring up the classic login box

- Type in Administrator

- Password is blanc

 

Dunno just another idea that came into my head

If you use Offline NT to reset the admin password put a star in to represent a blank space and should have no problems. Has problems if you actually put in a new password.

(as stated below) use nt offline password editor (Ultimate Boot CD - Overview), I have noticed for some strange reason that it may take a few tries to reset a password, but it works very well.

Hi there one of my techs used the file "cd070927" to test changing a password on xp pro and since then xp pro now doesnt have the save password tick box and wont keep network passwords.

 

any ideas as this is getting really annoying, i tried system restore and it failed. i've also tried changing the password back to what it was using the cd also.
