fiza Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Our finance staff are in need of new monitors. Their current ones are 21" 4:3 monitors but now we will be going widescreen. What size would be equivalent in widescreen format? They have looked at our existing 21" widescreen monitors in other areas but say these are too small for them. They want to go dual screen too!!

MatthewL Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I would say 24" is more than enough for situations like this, I upgraded to 27" from 24" recently and its quite a big step up and honestly don't think there is a need in a normal office environment. 1
localzuk Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 We offer 2 options to our finance staff - dual 24" monitors, or a single 27 monitor. We get about half and half with what they choose. We go with AOC I2790VQ or I2490VXQ now. Plus a desk mount to vesa mount them and give plenty of desk space. 1
synaesthesia Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Just be aware that 27" at FHD is poor if they're only a few feet away - QHD at best. Quite happy generally here with dual 22"/24" at FHD, far more beneficial than singular large screens although not experienced decent QHD screens yet to test 2

SamanthaD Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Dual 24's is pretty standard here. Might be worth using Dell Display Manager too if you're getting Dell displays, then showing them how to set up different window configurations. So much more flexible than the Windows half and half approach!

DrBeaker Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 In the past 2x 19" widescreen monitors, then finally they decided to buy IT some decent kit and we had 2x 22" widescreen monitors. In another role I had a single Samsung to start, the ancient PC couldn't cope with dual screens. Once I upgraded it then a 19" monitor as screen 2. Then a 24" no-body wanted as it has a scratch on the screen. In the end I brought 2x 22" Full HD Dell monitors myself off eBay to use. When I leave, they'll leave with me.

Your Finance staff appear to be spoilt . I hope they're reviewing the IT budget accordingly. 2x for Finance means 4x for IT then. It used to only be the preserve of IT staff to have multiple screens and that was if you were lucky.

We gave the option a while ago and a few took it up and then word of mouth just took over as those that did showed the others how useful it is. We had one hold out until last week when she final capitulated and asked for one. Tell a lie, the deputy Bursar is still a hold out as he likes to be different and his desk is too crowded with random crud, and Reception only have one each as it was felt that 2 screens might wall them off.

We've just bought some 24" monitors to refresh our staffroom, around £65+VAT each in the end from VeryPC. Those are standard 1080p resolution - do finance actually want larger screens or do they want higher-resolution screens so they can fit larger spreadsheets on one screen? If so, a QHD or even 4k screen might be an idea - I use a 32" QHD monitor on my own desk (AOC, around £200 from Amazon - very good value) and having the added verticle resolution is great, although at 32" it's as much a desk partition divider as it is a monitor. 1

Scaled so the user can see the pixels with their eyesight. 1080p is 2MP, 768p is 1MP, so 1080p wins on cost. 21.5" 1080p is £54, 24" is £80, 27" is £115. 1440p is 3.5MP 27" 1440p is £175, 31" 1440p is £200 so 2 24" is better than 1 27" 1440p if they have worse eyesight. https://skinflint.co.uk/?cat=monlcd19wide&xf=11939_30~13263_25601440 etc

All monitors are height adjustable, that's what old books are for Isn't a height-adjustable monitor part of a risk assessment now on desks etc? Surely it must be?
