themightymrp Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Anybody got a good alternative to Redstor? We currently use it and, although it is VERY good, it is quite expensive. Looking at a shade over £5k for 4Tb storage. What I do like about Redstor is that we pay for the uncompressed data on our server, not how much it ends up taking up in their data centres (our current backups going back 2 months are using about 150Tb at their end), so any alternative needs to be of similar nature if possible. Azure blob storage seems to be very cheap but i have ZERO clue on what to do about even looking at that. And restoring data needs to be quick and easy.
PlantHead Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Backup to the cloud - we use Azure which is priced dependent on the data you want to backup and the retention. Cheaper than tapes and then shipping offsite - gives us the added bonus that we can restore to the cloud in a DR scenario. We are an all windows shop.

Does the Azure backup system use its own interface/software then? You don't need to use a third party tool such as Veeam to backup the data and then store it on Azure?

You can get educational pricing per unit and it is worth shopping around to see who can give you the best deal. 1

dobbyit Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 We use veeam for full state back up and data and use redstor for sims drive. Thinking of getting rid of redstor as veeam is backing up the same data

Best thing is we can just move it to a virtual server in an emergency.
cheekycharly Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 I know the school is only paying £1800 currently for 2years UK based offsite backup so im not sure if Pea soup will be cheaper once ive paid for the software and their costs. They have three site all of which have... site 1: 400GB site 2: 200GB site 3: 0 - currently being built I dont feel we have loads to backup as I keep a trim bush . Does PeaSoup have a price calculator or anyway of calculating costs? Cheers supportman
