mansin Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Hi. We've just recently having an issue with domain users logging into Windows 10 Enterprise (1803) and getting a black screen with a cursor, for anything from 3 minutes to 10 minutes. It seems to be happening on random workstations/users and is intermittent. Event viewer is not revealing anything out of the ordinary. Has anyone experienced this at all. It's fast becoming a serious issue. Thanks Manny
TwistedHelixis Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 We just had a similar issue after updating but the screen was white. For use, deleting the users profile and logging back in seems to have fixed the issue.

I am wondering if a recent windows update has buggered things up, but can't find anything on the tinternweb to confirm this.
TwistedHelixis Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 The teacher said her laptop had just finished rebooting after a windows update when the issue occurred.
Oaktech Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Got impero? When it happens, try doing ctrl alt del and then just cancelling and seeing if it comes back to the desktop...
mansin Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 Got impero? When it happens, try doing ctrl alt del and then just cancelling and seeing if it comes back to the desktop... No don't have Impero. ctrl+alt+del combo bring the usual list of opens and escaping gors back to black screen. Only option is to wait it out or log off and try again.
mansin Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 Do you redirect AppData Folder? Yes we do.
FishCustard Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Try Process Monitor and see what a trace picks up?
robyholmes Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Got Adobe CC? If so try disabling the Updater service. Solved it for us. 1

robyholmes Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 (edited) You had exactly the same issue? When did it start for you? Also how to disable the Updater Service? Thanks We did it like this: I'd already gone through and deleted any Adobe programs from running on start up using the a Registry GPP. EDIT: As for when it started, can't be sure but months ago. We've had so many problems with it, its hard to keep track! Edited February 14, 2019 by robyholmes
CamelMan Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 We have been told by RM that there is a issue with going between machines with 1803 and previous versions having a similar affect if that helps. We're still looking into it.

BTW we're vanilla and not RM.Clearly not the issue here but the issue involving users moving between devices that have different versions of Windows 10 is a known issue for all networks, not just RM networks.
mansin Posted February 15, 2019 Author Posted February 15, 2019 Got Adobe CC? If so try disabling the Updater service. Solved it for us. Sorry, just realised that it's happening on workstations where there isn't Adobe CC installed. So looks like it's back to the drawing board. Thanks
ITAsh Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 We've been having the issue and right now we're working on seeing if it's anything to do with Roaming profiles, won't know until the students are back though.
kennysarmy Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 A batch of our PC's have started having a black screen issue once they are turned on - the lights are on but no one is home! No mouse, nothing. If it happens you can hard reset and then it's OK and boots normally. If PC gets turned off it appears to be OK if it's not left for a long time :/ Any thoughts?
Aarbron Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 We've just encountered the black screen login issue (for students, not staff) on our CC4 Connect OnPrem (2016 + Windows 10 202H) network. I've just tried the suggestion to disable the Adobe updater service, since we have Adobe CC 2019 on all of our workstations. Now I just need to find a problematic machine to see if it resolves...

Solved by updating graphics card driver :/
Michael Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Solved by updating graphics card driver :/ I was about to say, amazed no one has suggested this. This would typically be my first area to investigate. 1
