Promethean pen laggy

Hi,

 

 

I'm the techy at a three-form primary, and we have a Promethean board where the pen is significantly delayed. Particularly noticeable when drawing circles, or anything else that is round. This problem only emerged after updating the Win10, however we have 25 other classroom machines (all that were updated to Win10 at the same time) which have never had this problem.

 

I have tried the following

• Standard restarts of both machine and board
  
• Disconnecting and reconnecting to machine
  
• Playing with different drivers (both from ActivDriver and Device Manager)
  
• I have tried installing just about every version of ActivDriver
  
• Carrying out standard Windows Updates
  

 

It is also worth noting that the PC doesn't automatically pick up the connection, and you instead have to go into ActivDriver and click "Find" everytime you want it to connect.

 

 

Any ideas?

These currently have the old serial connections.

 

I appreciate they are old, but I am also baffled as all other machines have exactly the same connections, and it worked flawlessly with exactly the same connections whilst on Win10!

 

If push comes to shove, buying a USB connection isn't the end of the world. But just frustrating when I know 25 other machines can handle it with exactly the same OS!

Have you updated the firmware? Might be worth a go

Are the boards ONLY serial connection, or do they have USB ports on the mainboard at the back of the board where you can directly plug in a USB cable? If so, doing the latter is likely going to be a worthy fix.

DO you have a known working computer somewhere else you could plug in and see if the problem goes away? If it does, it's the computer, if it doesn't then it's the board/cable.

If I'm honest, I've never ever taken the boards off of the wall, however I know they were purchased in 2005, so I highly doubt they would have a USB!

 

I like the idea of trying another machine, will give that a go at the end of the day. I don't quite know how I didn't think of that, but when I'm so 'zoomed in' on a repair you forget to take a step back and look at the bigger picture!

 

I will give this a try at the end of the day when I have time to fiddle with getting it back on the wall, eek!

That would be the best idea. Use another known working computer on this board and see if it does the same thing. If not you know it is the computer with an issue and may need to be re-imaged.

Hodge the left side of the board up (as you're looking at it) and off and you'll be able to see that connector box dohicky & plug/unplug a cable into it without taking the whole thing off

If they look like this:

they should have a USB connection. The power connection is that combined power/serial mess but you can leave serial disconnected at the PC end and just use that cable for power, then use USB for the data. Don't forget you're on max 5m USB or going via cat5 adapters or they'll get upset.

Dumb question, but have you tried different pens on the board? Could it be a bad pen?
