Hi all, I've been sorting through some cables, and I've found a few of these... I'm not sure what the technical name is... I'm guessing it's mini HDMI to composite/RCA... I've put a load of pegs up, and I'm meticulously labelling each one, and want to get it right! My understanding is they link older cameras to a monitor. But not 100% if it is mini HDMI, and whether I can call it composite if it also has an audio RCA cable... Thanks!

Hi all, I'm going to preface this by saying that I am a bit out of my depth! We purchased some laptops for school, and when they arrived I facepalmed and realised that they didn't have an RJ45 so couldn't PXE boot! I'm trying to find a way to export the image from WDS onto a bootable USB where I could install the OS, however I can only export from WDS as a WIM file! Maybe this is a silly question, but I don't have much experience with imaging... How do I convert a WIM to an ISO so I can boot? Thanks!

What's everybody's online learning engagement like? I was feeling a bit down in the dumps recently, feeling like it was all a disaster and had my name all over it, however today I ran a few percentages and it certainly cheered me up! We have 96% who are engaging entirely online. Leaving only 4% of children who are working on paper packs. Out of the parents that were struggling, 81% of queries were solved with 1 email! That did cheer me up to see that. I think generally all the emails that I saw were negative, which did reflect onto me, however when you consider it in the grand scheme of things, the negative outcomes are such a small percentage compared to the school as a whole!

When I went for a role in a school (different to where I am now) I was given practical tasks to do and asked questions whilst I completed them. I can't remember all of them, but this is what I remember. Lasted about an hour. Had a PC in front of me, and was asked to take the whole PSU out (wires and everything), and then refit it. - is there an advantage to upgrading a 400w PSU to a 500w PSU - can you point out the CMOS and tell me what it does - what does RAM stand for Then turn PC on and log in as a local admin (details provided). - [at the login screen], before you login, what is a quick way to find the PCs hostname from the logon screen - what would you do if after logging in there were no desktop icons or taskbar - what is a keyboard shortcut to open the Run dialog Then create a new user account by using the command prompt only - what's the difference between command prompt and powershell - if a user had a network error, what is the first test/command you'd enter into command prompt Then disable the webcam And a few other questions as well... Can't remember all of them! The above was for a more junior role.

As a 3 form primary with 3MFDs, I use Papercut Logger. It's free as well. It just sits on wherever you run your print server and logs everything. It spits out all the results into a CSV. It doesn't do any fancy controlling prints etc, but it just copies each print into an excel worksheet, and then you can work magic with excel formulas to narrow down who and where prints the most. Our Business Manager also had this problem. I just set the default to "Print to PDF", and then once in PDF she can print the PDF wherever she wants to. It's interesting that it still defaults to the other printer... Have you tried disabling all other printers in Device Manager? Or if security settings prohibit this, remove all other printers through a GPO policy that only applies to your bursar. Maybe temporarily set a 'Deny' permission onto all the other printers to give FMS no other choice than PDF printer. As I say, setting the default within windows to PDF printer done the trick for us.

Hello, I've been reviewing our IT Disaster Recovery plan, and there is a particular (very unlikely) scienerio that we want to prepare for. If there is a powercut, and the building needs to be evacuated. We have just ordered 6 cheap mobile phones, so parents can be contacted should they need to be, but we will struggle to get parent contact details. We do have paper records, but there will likely be a few changes between the time that they were printed. I'd like something that would routinely export parent contact details to an external server. We don't mind paying a small amount to rent an external server. My roadmap is SIMS Exports to CSV CSV backup to external server (maybe OneDrive, or AWS) That backup can then be accessed remotely (from a mobile phone/laptop, etc) Any ideas?

Hi all, I'm relatively new (a year or two) to the server game, as previously we paid an external company to manage them, but that proved expensive and the head shifted it onto me. I am a technician by trade. I'd like to upgrade the amount of space we have in our server, as we currently have around 600GB, which for a three-form school is crazy. I'm constantly archiving stuff... If I'm honest, I don't really know where to start! I would start with a backup, however how would I increase the storage in RAID? I'm guessing that I cannot just pop in a larger hard drive and let RAID do it's thing. Any ideas?

Hi all Since the Summer Holidays, I've come back and noticed that 6 of our promethean boards are suddenly no longer working. These are the key points. - All the connections show up in Device Manager, but show a yellow warning sign. Have tried updating drivers. - None of the connections can be found in ActivDriver - All the boards use a serial to USB adapter - Power is definitely being supplied to the board and adapter I fear that a Windows 10 update over the summer has knocked the drivers out, as it has happened to 6 simultaneously... Has this happened to anybody else? Any tips or advice?

Guys, We had a similar issue, and just decided to use a wireless doorbell. Sounds stupid, but worked perfectly! Obviously depends how big your school is though, if the exam hall and exam officer are at opposite ends of the school, there are always Wi-Fi doorbells!

We are a large 3-form Primary. What would you suggest instead of BromCom?

Hi Guys, We have been considering all options regarding moving away from SIMS, and wondered if any of you use BromCom? I've been to a training session, and it looks fantastic! But wondered if any of you actually use it? Thanks

If I'm honest, I've never ever taken the boards off of the wall, however I know they were purchased in 2005, so I highly doubt they would have a USB! I like the idea of trying another machine, will give that a go at the end of the day. I don't quite know how I didn't think of that, but when I'm so 'zoomed in' on a repair you forget to take a step back and look at the bigger picture! I will give this a try at the end of the day when I have time to fiddle with getting it back on the wall, eek!

Thanks for your response. These currently have the old serial connections. I appreciate they are old, but I am also baffled as all other machines have exactly the same connections, and it worked flawlessly with exactly the same connections whilst on Win10! If push comes to shove, buying a USB connection isn't the end of the world. But just frustrating when I know 25 other machines can handle it with exactly the same OS!

Hi, I'm the techy at a three-form primary, and we have a Promethean board where the pen is significantly delayed. Particularly noticeable when drawing circles, or anything else that is round. This problem only emerged after updating the Win10, however we have 25 other classroom machines (all that were updated to Win10 at the same time) which have never had this problem. I have tried the following Standard restarts of both machine and board Disconnecting and reconnecting to machine Playing with different drivers (both from ActivDriver and Device Manager) I have tried installing just about every version of ActivDriver Carrying out standard Windows Updates It is also worth noting that the PC doesn't automatically pick up the connection, and you instead have to go into ActivDriver and click "Find" everytime you want it to connect. Any ideas?
