It's time for the annual thread to help with travel plans to the show.

Which station am I headed for?

Your destination is London ExCel, an enormously long building which has DLR stations at both ends: Custom House (the Main Entrance) and Prince Regent. You may prefer to go to Prince Regent for the trip home as Custom House becomes very busy!

Engineering work

There is no planned engineering work for the weekend on the DLR or underground network. Yippee!

Jouney planning

The TfL journey planner is great for planning journeys in London by tube, DLR, bus, tram and TfL overground Rail services

https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/

Payment

TfL works by contactless credit/debit card, Apple/Google pay or Oyster Card these days. This is much cheaper than buying a paper ticket from a machine. It is very clever and, provided you use the same card all day/week, will cap your spending when you hit the travelcard cost. You must remember to touch in and out on the DLR where there are no barriers.

If you have a paper travel card with your train ticket you don't have to swipe or touch your ticket. Just get on the train.

Don't be a sheep at Custom House and join the lengthy queue nearest the platform to touch in/out. There are many card touch pads all the way up the ramps. The ones nearest the concourse rarely have a queue.

Emirates AirLine

The cable car over to the O2 Arena (aka Millennium Dome) is a popular trip with good views in the evenings.

Its cost is not included in a Travelcard. If you show your BETT show badge, you can buy a discounted ticket for the journey.

The restaurant and shopping options at the O2 have increased dramatically in the last 12 months. There is a lot to do there there.

And thanks to @CAM for this travel warning

For those coming from Surrey and Sussex via the Brighton mainline, be aware that engineering work is taking place between Gatwick Airport and Redhill on Saturday. The rail replacement bus is not currently showing on the journey planner.

I dont suppose anyone is driving from anywhere that might vaguely be considered on my route from Dorset? I can travel quite a way to meet up with someone

Stansted Express does not live up to its name on the Saturday - all trains suspended, bus replacement - instead of 50 minute train journey, being told to allow 90 minutes as the Stansted junction on the motorway is undergoing major works. However, the cost the flight, train and travelodge for Friday night booked so far in advance means that I'm probably travelling a greater distance than many but probably spending less than many have to on their trains.

Friday: Severe Delays on the DLR between Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal.

Avoid changing at Canning Town if you can.

Jubilee Line to North Greenwich then Cable Car over the river would be better.

Or get on the DLR at Tower Gateway so you don’t have to change

This is actually great advice whether there are DLR delays or not! We came up yesterday from the South Coast and had a great journey, all except the interchange at Canning Town and the two stops on the DLR - the DLR just can't cope with the volume of people and it was a horrendous crush. It was physically impossible to get onto the first train it was that packed.

(Unfortunately for me my travelling companion is terrified of heights, so the cable car wasn't an option for us!)

Anyone coming from the East, I usually take the district line to Plaistow and get a bus from there, 241 takes you to the east entrance of the Excel (ie the opposite end from everyone else!)
