ICTDirect_Dave Posted November 28, 2018 Author Posted November 28, 2018 The Three Directeers Hugh Ha! and Ho! Ho! Ho! Haha! Brilliant, though technically only ben is a director in that bunch. John G would be the only other director I've given you a picture for. So far at least
LeMarchand Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 Haha! Brilliant, though technically only ben is a director in that bunch. John G would be the only other director I've given you a picture for. So far at least It was more (ICT) Directeers. Alas, I couldn't work out how to fit BenC, who even Mme LeMarchand agreed looks like Hugh Grant in that pic you posted, as one of the Musketeers names - as Ben looks a bit like Ray Stevenson's Porthos and MartinJ could've been AtHoHoHos.

Ahhh see that’s clever. Unlike myself, I totally missed that! Unfortunately Ben always looks like that. Not much we can do about it.

EliteCommander Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Sure, though will have to wait until I get home. You keep your Guillotine at home ??? I mean French Revolution style, rather than paper trimmer :-) 2

ICTDirect_Dave Posted November 29, 2018 Author Posted November 29, 2018 You keep your Guillotine at home ??? I mean French Revolution style, rather than paper trimmer :-) Best place for it. It’s amazing how easily those things deter cold callers!
ICTDirect_Dave Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 Final call for entries before this afternoon's deadline. Since @Garacesh pointed out that the thread is a little large at this point. Here's the spiel for anyone wishing to get involved. http://www.ict-direct.co.uk/media/edugeek/upgradathon.jpg In recent times there have been a number of threads on this esteemed site where good users have compared their office workstations. Some of you are lucky devils indeed and boast powerful hardware to run your day to day admin tasks. Others are veritable paupers, suffering from old processors, limited memory and, astoundingly, no Solid State Drive! To this end. We at ICT Direct have decided to host a winter competition. We’ll be offering lucky winners upgrades to their current hardware which should, in theory, give you a little more respectability in the personal office tech stakes. There will be a grand prize to be won in week six in addition. A lovely HP Z420 workstation for one lucky winner to show off all their technical prowess on. In the finest traditions of EduGeek competitions past, we’ll be asking for your professional contact details (Via PM or email) in exchange for entry. We’ll also be asking you to post your current specs in the thread for all to see, along with some reasons as to why YOU deserve to be a winner. You can argue on a personal level, or you can seek sympathy because your machine is just THAT bad! Crucially, you must make it funny! The more amusing, entertaining, or downright silly your attempts, the more likely it will be that we assign you a coveted bonus entry into the grand draw! So prepare your wit, design your memes, write that short story, compose the theme song & record the music video that this competition NEEDS and get your entries in pronto!
Popular Post Garacesh Posted November 30, 2018 Popular Post Posted November 30, 2018 (edited) Given all the photoshoppy nonsense recently, I assumed we'd moved on from 'tell us why you deserve it' In that case.. Have you ever tried stuffing a panda into a 2L cola bottle? Firstly if your answer is yes, I have several questions and this entry can wait, but I'm guessing your answer is no. And neither have I. But were I to try it, I'd imagine it would be something like building my current PC. Take a tiny low-profile case, add a non-modular power supply, and suddenly you're fighting your way through a rat's nest of tendrils reminiscent of the time you picked a fight with the Flying Spaghetti Monster. My tiny 60GB SSD filled itself to the brim (not unlike a panda in a cola bottle) a while back and it took me 2 hours to disassemble the case, take the drive out, swap it out, get the drive back in, and coax the PSU cables into spaces they probably shouldn't be going. Wouldn't be so bad if I could nix the optical drive, but our staff here insist on resurrecting the corpse of optical media every 6 months in an awful bout of technological necromancy that I daren't ask about. Also exam boards. The CPU is best described as 'adequate' (where've I heard that one before? ), a 3.6GHz i5-3470, though sometimes it decides it doesn't want to play ball and locks up on me. I'm not sure if that's a thermal/airflow issue (potentially giving rise to some "This PC blows/doesn't blow/sucks/doesn't suck" comments), if it just doesn't like sports, or if it just's getting old, but I can sympathise with the latter two options. I'd say the GPU would be the biggest deficiency, running CCTV on this R7 200 Series gets hotter and choppier than two seasons of Hell's Kitchen. And it doesn't have the lamb sauce. And finally there's the memory. RAM is RAM, and unless I have a bleating mammal inside my PC there's not a whole lot to say there. Besides, didn't we already establish the only animals I work with are pandas? Remember! Vote for the panda in the cola bottle! Vote Garacesh! Err, what do you mean this isn't a popularity contest? I've already written my entry! I can't go back and re-do it now, who do you take me for? Don't give me excuses, you're fired! Wait, you're not my assistant? Then you're hired! And then summarily fired. Clean out your non-desk and be off site by the hour. Edited November 30, 2018 by Garacesh 5
Garacesh Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 In my defence... It was salvaged from a pupil machine that died on us
ICTDirect_Dave Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 In my defence... It was salvaged from a pupil machine that died on us I note that you haven't mentioned any other aspect of your spec... Does that mean you're embarrassed as it's too powerful. Also, you'll need to pm me your contact details if you want in.

Garacesh Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Stone? When I were a lad... Reminds me of my early days as a fledgling apprentice, when the NM at the time suggested "Get one of the stones and stick an image on it", which I took to be him suggesting that the teacher wouldn't notice a primitive rock with a desktop painted on it.. 1
Mako Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I have a stone slate!! I'm disappointed that this isn't a tablet from Stone Computers.
