David, there is still the opportunity to claim the Adobe licences and , if you think worthwhile, the new Gridstore storage. You're just ahead of the curve this time ...

It does raise a serious point though. It's a great commitment to get schools up to these speeds at no extra costs, but, it does mean schools that invested sensibly earlier on will be paying more for the same service.

We're a primary with a 200MB line, and are paying the 200MB cost.

A primary paying for a 20MB line however gets a 100MB line for 20MB money.

All admirable, but be nice if the costs for those already at the new minimum standard went down to match those who are getting the "free" upgrade.

Dave, that's never been the intention or shouldn't be a consequence. Clearly, I can't share commercials on an open forum but if you email me I'll look at this to see if there are any unintended consequences.

@DaveAshworth, when we renegotiated our contract our cost came down significantly, even for the primary schools who also got a speed upgrade at the time so I'm sure there's saving to be had if you speak to them.

@JohnJackson, thanks, yeah I know we're already at the top, and as I say, the new price helped a lot. I've been trying to get hold of the Adobe license for a while now. I think Troy is just getting them set up today. Also looking forward to getting our Chrome licenses with Neverware on Friday.

Gridstore, unfortunately, isn't really compatible with our infrastructure as we are virtualised and use Veeam Backup. It would be great if we could use the Gridstore offering with other software.

Happy to @JohnJackson, if you want to PM me your address.

Like I said, it's great for those on lower speeds, but if they then get high speed for low speed money, it does risk upsetting people who are paying high speed money for the same speeds.

David, the new version of Gridstore we're deploying in the autumn is specified to support virtualised infrastructure and storage which is something schools asked me to sort out. So I am!! Thanks for the points above. In terms of Adobe, we've got a lot of demand so looking with Adobe at how we can speed this up. I'll have an update before the end of term.

Yes, this is the interesting point. Last time contract came up for renewal, we got the offer to double our speed, but no cash savings. Interesting that you achieved a discount at the same time!

@JohnJackson We have a number of schools which are with Trustnet/LGFL it is great the only thing I wish for is a solution to AD web filtering with our schools that have a NAT networks. That is the only downer for us. Edited by willtech

we are on empsn there is zero cost to us for the connection for 100mb line. another school in our trust are on 200mb and connection gets partly funded so cost is about £500 per year for the connection.
