Adobe Creative Cloud Packager does not support CC 2019 apps or later!

This means that you can no longer create device-based installers for any of the CC 2019 apps. Named user licenses are the only option going forward!

Issue

When you launch Creative Cloud Packager, you are prompted with a message indicating that the latest release of Creative Cloud apps are only available in the Admin Console.

 

 

You cannot use Creative Cloud Packager to create packages that include CC 2019 apps or later. This means that when creating a package, the Creative Cloud Packager Applications and Updates screen will not display CC 2019 apps:

 

 

Solution

To create packages for CC 2019 apps, go to the Packages tab in the Admin Console.

 

If you need to deploy CC 2019 apps for your end users:

 

• Create a package that contains only the Creative Cloud desktop app.
  
• Choose the Elevated Privileges option..
  
• Deploy the package.
  
• End users will then install CC 2019 apps via the Creative Cloud desktop app.

If, for some reason, you are unable to deploy the Creative Cloud desktop app to your end-user computers, contact Adobe support for a package that includes CC 2019 apps.

Yes there is a device based named licensing coming for lab environments. It sounds like setting up a sync of PCs that have CC apps installed on them up to CC. Named user licensing will only work if you have 1:1 devices. Only 2 activations per user. I'd stick with 2018 versions until the new device licensing is in place.

Last I heard this was supposed to be available in February. Was just told there will be a solution for those who don't want/can't afford per user licensing for everyone (staff and students), no detail of what it would be.

Why do companies keep doing stuff like this? Removing capabilities before the new system is in place? We only have device licenses here. So, with their dragging their feet, we can't actually make full use of them at the moment?

I doubt Adobe cares since they already have our subscription money.

Weel the question you have to ask is. Do you really need the 2019 versions right now?

 

More than likely more educational organisations will wait until summer 2019. Hopefully the new solution will be in place in time for the Summer.

 

It would be good if Adobe CC could just sync and provision users and devices from AzureAD.

 

The current user sync took me 2 months to get working well. Its a python script. If the 2 device limit was lifted for devices behind your public IP/domain joined devices the user licensing would work. This is possible using conditional access.

Well the question you have to ask is. Do you really need the 2019 versions right now?

It's the principal more than anything. Creative Cloud isn't cheap (especially compared to how much it cost back when Creative Suite was still around)!

I hope so. It sounds like Adobe still hasn't got round to upgrading everyone to the new admin console yet, so I guess they are waiting until that happens?

Had to updated a remote users adobe cc account few days ago, not aware that it will go up to 2019, after 2 days of updating (rural broadband ftw) it's now saying it's a trail and need to be brought.

 

So i thought ok i'll just run the license package.... doesn't work on CC 2019 or later.... o feck

Turns out after remoting onto his Mac it only updated to 2018, as he;s running macOS 10.11 and 2019 needs 10.12 or above SOMEONE NOT UPDATING HAS HELPED FOR ONCE!!!

I'd avoid 2019 versions due t the licensing changes. But also its a 1.0 product. Like installing 1809 on day one.

Having to repacked the 2018 apps and getting the remote worker to bring his iMac in, his download is so slow it will take more than the trail period to download im sure!

Adobe is quickly becoming my least favourite company....

 

Made the package.... it's downloading at 100-500KB/s, WHY!!! It's not our end our speed is fine and i've tested other downloads.

Yes Adobe are going to be phasing out the Adobe K-12 device licensing by the end of 2019 and customers will be moved to the user licensing instead.

 

The user licensing has only been released this year and is a lot cheaper than the device licensing (off the top of my head it’s about £4.10 - £4.20 per license) but there is a minimum purchase of 500 licenses.

You would need to cover each person (staff and students) who would need access to the software but there is no need to license everyone unless you think they will all need access? One advantage is you’d be able to use the Adobe admin user console to control and manage the licenses which is easier than the current way of distributing the device licensing. (see attached)

 

I’ve already had a couple of schools who wanted to change to the user licensing anyway as they have saved money on the renewal. Your renewal is due on xxxxxx which means I’ll be able to quote from the June 1st and will see if I’m still able to get pricing for both options at the time or not.

 

So only 1500+ accounts to create and manage, not to mention the GDPR side of this!

I have over 10000. Just a Python script does the export from AD or a CSV if you export using powershell. The https up to Adobe's cloud. It would work if there wasnt a 2 device limit and the SSO worked like Office. A 5 device limit may work.

We're dealing with this as well. We've had multiple meetings with Adobe for this transition and so far it has not been smooth.

 

Named user login has it's benefits but it also most certainly has its disadvantages. We have certain courses that use Photoshop for a week or two out of the year which now means we need to figure-out how we work with temporary licensing or removing seats from users that are not actively using the software then give it back. We now need to micro manage who gets a seat and who doesn't.

 

This is not going to be a smooth road for many! I wish another company would appear with a suite of software to give Adobe more competition in hopes that they realized how horrible their licensing subscription scheme is.

I'm in the process of upgrading from CS5 to CC due to migrating to Windows 10.

 

It sucks that user licensing is only two activations. I would have expected to be able to install the suite across the site, and users log in to CC desktop prior to being able to launch an app from within it. Upon login, Adobe could check if that user is using the license on another device.

 

We have 22 IT suites with so many classroom moves and timetable changes, it'll be impossible for us to not install it everywhere to ensure students have access to it. I can't see any other way other then buying device licenses for every bloody device.

I got a bit more information. Looks like a seperate licence will be avaliable for education in the Admin Console, the bad news is user logins are mandatory so it looks like you have to sync your users to the admin console. Then assign a device licence which doesn't count against the user activations. We won't know until Q1 2019. I can share the scripts I have at present which are only used for home use rights for staff.
