HarryMonkey Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 (edited) I just challenged my OH to recall when we last had rain in Bedford (apart from the 20 minutes on Friday). Neither of us could remember. The only day I can pinpoint was the 12th of May, that's because we were at a steam rally in Stotfold and it rained in the afternoon. Apart from that neither of us can recall when it last rained. Its awful, I believe the Devil has arrived to learn how to make Hell hotter Bought a digital display thermometer to record peak high and lows in my flat... unboxed last night and in my bedroom just over that evening and till I left this morning it peaked at 29.4c I dread to think what its up to now given the flat is all locked up and doors not wide open.... 1

Reminds me of 1976 the year I left school after having spent an extra year due to the change in leaving age.... Virtually 6 glorious weeks of Sunshine...... Beautiful.... Love it as there are no hosepipe bans up here..... Have to transport 200 litres per evening to my allotment though as there is no water there so pretty pleased I'm not on a water meter hehe! Well Happy!!! 1

Dos_Box Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 OK, Preston is being weird again. It's been raining off and on since 07:00 and is only just now brightening up. I didn't see any of this on the weather forecast yesterday, so it looks like it's back to normal weather here, even if it's still warm and muggy. Apparently thunderstorms may appear over the weekend/Monday, but still to early to accurately predict that I think.

All the livestock classes were struggling in the heat, shade was a rare commodity and water was rationed. Sadly not going tomorrow but OH is leaving at 6am with 4 horses and the forecast is even hotter Wednesday and then even worse on Thursday.... Urgently need rain now as the ground is turning to dust but not until I’ve finished doing this, 75 acres left to do....

I have just watched the BBC forecast. There is a break expected on Friday with rain (at times heavy) expected (for our region in the south-east) not sure about other areas as was mostly paying attention to the detail that pertained to here.

6Foot2 Posted July 26, 2018 Author Posted July 26, 2018 At least three local buses have broken down in the heat (one on my local estate when I drove home) I have heard of one bus driver asking passengers for water because mechanics in the garage had not put enough in before releasing the bus for its tour of duty today.

The latest forecasts suggest that the storms will miss my area completely.
