StevieM Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I am happy to wait at the station to form a Walking Bus If anyone wants to join the station walkers, just tag or PM me Are you supplying the hi-viz tabards or will people have to bring their own? We have a line of pre-school toddlers who waddle past every day in their bright yellow vests, with an adult at the front. They look like a row of ducklings. Cuteness overload! 1

failnator Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Are they walking in pairs and holding hands too, like the chain I pass some mornings? The ants probably are 1
StevieM Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Are they walking in pairs and holding hands too, like the chain I pass some mornings? No, they have a rope with hoops that they all hold on to. Anyways, back on topic - With all this talk about trains and walking buses, I did a quick check to see just how much it would cost for me to get the train to Salisbury next Thursday. The cheapest ticket was £117.20... one way! Car and a campsite it is, then.
LeMarchand Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 The cheapest ticket was £117.20... one way! ...and they wonder why people don't use public transport!
enjay Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 ...and they wonder why people don't use public transport! It is the same where I live. A bus into town and back costs £4 (or £9 for a group of 4 people). 2 hours in the town centre multi-storey is also £4.
elsiegee40 Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 (edited) It would cost the Kent contingent an arm and a leg, but there is one train an hour from Waterloo at £9 to Salisbury. It is always worth using a ticket splitter sitesuch as splitticketing if travelling by train. Or, as @BKGarry and I do, use your standard cheapest options to get to/through London and then just book one of the £9 specials separately Edited July 18, 2018 by elsiegee40
BKGarry Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Does Paddington go to salisbury? We always have gone via waterloo 1

LeMarchand Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Does Paddington go to salisbury? Don't know, but he went to Shepton Mallet prison in his last film.

BKGarry Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Just think, all the money saved with split ticketing, you could sponsor me with it https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/garry-gardiner5
StevieM Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 It would cost the Kent contingent an arm and a leg, but there is one train an hour from Waterloo at £9 to Salisbury. Really? All the way from here for £9? Oh, the Waterloo in London. It is always worth using a ticket splitter sitesuch as splitticketing if travelling by train. Or, as @BKGarry and I do, use your standard cheapest options to get to/through London and then just book one of the £9 specials separately I had a look on the split ticket site and I could go from Liverpool via Newport (S. Wales) for £47! Not that I'm going to, but that's a bit different from what National Rail quoted.
mikeprice Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Really? All the way from here for £9? Oh, the Waterloo in London. yeah - damn southerners copying our town names very confusing
CAM Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 So where is it we are going? I thought it was the Greyfisher pub for some reason.
Oaktech Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 So where is it we are going? I thought it was the Greyfisher pub for some reason. That was the *old* plan... Current plan is picnic in the cathedral close or in the Office if it heaves it down.
AJWhite1970 Posted July 19, 2018 Author Posted July 19, 2018 Greyfisher was plan B incase it was raining on the day but with little hope of that (ever) happening we are sticking with plan A which is an everyone bring something for yourself and something for everyone else picnic on the cathedral grounds just behind my place, I'll supply bread, crisps, dips and salad etc so people don't have to struggle on the trains with 4 French loaves and a tub of potato salad 1
